Advanced Metering Project Engineer (San Francisco)
The Building People, LLC, has a position open for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Engineer who will be our primary representative and a self-motivated resource for our team in our rapidly expanding connected infrastructure division. Our team, which already has a nationwide presence in Master Systems Integration across the federal environment, has numerous opportunities to help build and expand an industrial/metering controls department. This position will join and help lead an innovative solution as part of our larger MSI team architecture.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct site visits and assessments at client facilities to understand energy infrastructure and loads, including locating and classifying utility meters (electric, gas, water, steam).
- Participate in planning, logistics, and reporting functions with project team members.
- Travel to multiple project sites within a defined region and maintain communication with stakeholders.
- Review facility plans, drawings, asset inventories, and technical specifications to assess energy meters' operating status.
- Provide recommendations for meter repairs, replacements, and installation of new meters or submeters based on client needs or project team suggestions.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Experience with building design and management of critical building systems.
- Experience conducting site visits and assessments at client facilities.
- Experience assessing energy infrastructure, including metering systems, their quality, quantity, and vulnerabilities.
- Experience collaborating with customers, contractors, inspectors, and service providers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain a basic civilian security clearance.
- 5+ years of related experience.

- Experience with building energy audits or facility condition assessments.
- Knowledge of environmental, sustainability, and energy efficiency regulations and standards.
- Experience working with diverse project types and technologies.
- Experience with federal agencies like EPA, GSA, or DoD.
- Ability to organize and facilitate technical meetings.
- Effective team and independent work skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
