Electrical Engineer (Engineer IV)

Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a leading public agency in the Fairfax, VA area, is seeking an Electrical Engineer (Engineer IV) to join their team! This long-term contract role offers stability, competitive pay, and the opportunity to manage impactful public facility projects.

Salary Range: Minimum: $41.02/hour, Maximum: $68.36/hour
Type: Contract

Position Summary
Lead complex capital and non-capital projects across a wide range of public facilities. This is a high-impact role for a licensed Professional Engineer who thrives in both office and field environments and is passionate about public infrastructure, sustainability, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, review, and implementation of electrical systems, including generators, life safety systems, solar PV, and EV infrastructure.
  • Manage large-scale engineering projects in occupied facilities, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert across departments, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and budget constraints.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents as a licensed PE.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related area, or equivalent combination of education, training, and recent, relevant industry experience is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Required:
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Electrical Engineering (or eligible for reciprocity within 6 months)
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in commercial power distribution, energy management, and mission-critical systems
  • Strong background in contract and project management
Technical Expertise
  • Electrical system design, validation, and optimization
  • Life safety systems and photovoltaic (solar) systems
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives


Skills & Attributes
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in both office and active construction site environments


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb ladders, access confined spaces, and lift/push up to 25 lbs
  • Must be mobile and able to work in extreme temperatures and on active job sites
