ZeroWatt is an energy intelligence platform for Industry. We collect high-frequency data from
industrial plants and turn it into insight that helps clients cut energy waste and cost.
About the role
We are hiring an experienced engineer to own significant parts of the platform, spanning both the core product
and our internal tooling. You will design and run backend and data systems, build the domain-facing layer
(dashboards, analytical models, alerting), and help set engineering standards for the team.
This is a full-time permanent role with a 6-month probation period. It is hybrid and based in Chennai.
Candidates must be in Chennai, or willing to relocate, and be in the office on the on-site days.
What you will do
• Design, build, and own backend services and APIs in Python (FastAPI)
• Model and optimize time-series data on PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB
• Build and operate data pipelines and streaming jobs (Airflow, Kafka)
• Build energy dashboards, analytical models, and alerting on client data
• Improve reliability, observability, and performance of production systems
• Review code, set engineering standards, and mentor junior engineers and interns
Requirements
• 2+ years building and shipping production backend or data systems
• Strong Python and advanced SQL
• Experience owning a service or pipeline end to end in production
• Fluent with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) in your daily workflow
Preferred
• Experience with time-series or streaming data (TimescaleDB, Kafka, or similar)
• Familiarity with Docker, Linux, CI/CD, and infrastructure operations
• Background in energy, IoT, or industrial systems
