About Zeno
An unprecedented energy transition has begun. To meet 2040 net zero goals, over 2 billion electric two-wheelers (motorcycles) must be sold and $11 trillion in fuel consumption replaced. Zeno is building a tech platform to electrify this two-wheeler market, currently responsible for more than 4% of the world’s GHG emissions. Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition and democratize the benefits across Africa, India, and Latin America. With a focus on East Africa as a starting point, Zeno is building a new energy ecosystem with ground-up development of a fundamentally better electric motorcycle and associated battery swap network to drive a better experience for our customers.
We are looking for audacious, creative, and committed people to join us on this important mission. You will be joining a bold team consisting of leading engineers, operators, and entrepreneurs hailing from companies that include Tesla, Apple, Google, SRAM, Ola Electric, Dott, LiveWire, Lucid, Bolt, Microsoft, Sun Mobility, among others. Zeno has just closed its seed round with Lower Carbon, Silicon Valley’s leading climate tech venture fund, Toyota Ventures, the VC of the world’s largest automotive, and 4DX Ventures, a leading early-stage investor in Africa.
The Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer at Zeno, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and validation of the structural components and systems for our electric motorbikes. You will specifically on the bike frame, swingarm, handlebar, guards, grab handle, footrest, and structural brackets. This role is critical in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of safety, durability, and performance, especially in the challenging environments of emerging markets. Your work will directly influence the structural integrity and longevity of our vehicles, making them reliable for customers in diverse regions.
What You Will Do
• Lead the structural design and optimization of key components such as the frame, chassis, and suspension systems for electric motorbikes.
• Innovate lightweight yet robust structural solutions that improve vehicle performance and efficiency.
•Select and validate structural components, focusing on a balance between weight, strength, cost, and environmental impact.
• Evaluate the various design options, present with comparison for better design selection
• Oversee the prototyping of structural components, ensuring that prototypes are built to specification and tested rigorously.
•Have good hands-on experience of Creo to carry out the design 3D & 2D modeling
• Develop and execute comprehensive testing plans, including durability, fatigue, crashworthiness, and environmental testing, to validate the performance of structural designs.
• Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of structural components into the overall vehicle design.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to optimize design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for service (DFS), and ensure scalability in production.
• Ensure all structural designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, particularly those related to vehicle safety.
• Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, analysis results, and testing outcomes to support design validation and manufacturing.
• Utilize advanced simulation tools (e.g., FEA) to conduct structural analysis and ensure designs meet stringent performance and safety standards.
What You Bring
• 7-10 years of experience in structural engineering within the automotive, electric vehicle, or motorbike industries.
• Proven track record of leading the design and development of structural systems for high-quality vehicles.
• Experience in designing for tough road environments, with a focus on durability and longevity in challenging conditions.
• Proficiency in CAD and CAE tools (e.g., Creo UX, SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS) for structural design and analysis.
• Experience with crashworthiness, impact testing, and structural integrity analysis.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in guiding cross-functional teams.
• Excellent project management skills, with a history of delivering complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
