Environmental Engineer/Project Manager
Our client is a leading European manufacturer of high-density and medium-density fiberboard (HDF and MDF); mainly for the furniture industry. The company is establishing its first fiberboard manufacturing plant in the USA, equipped with state-of-the-art technology from global equipment suppliers. To ensure compliance with environmental standards and best practices, Homanit is seeking a motivated Environmental Engineer with extensive experience in permitting, compliance, and sustainability. The successful candidate will play a key role in obtaining and maintaining environmental permits, working closely with regulatory agencies, and implementing sustainable practices at the new plant in Alcolu, SC.
Job Description
- Manage and oversee all state and federal permitting activities (air, water, wastewater, noise, and process chemicals).
- Prepare and submit reports and supporting documentation to regulatory agencies, ensuring timely approvals.
- Establish emission levels and boundaries for the new production plant to meet all regulatory requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with EPA regulations (air, water quality, waste management, hazardous materials, noise).
- Design and implement systems to minimize environmental impact, focusing on emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and by-product management.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects and expansions, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, consultants, and engineers to resolve complex compliance challenges.
- Deliver training to employees on environmental standards, regulatory requirements, and sustainability practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in environmental engineering within the pulp or wood processing or similar industry.
- Proven track record with Title V permitting and environmental permitting processes.
- Hands-on experience working with the EPA and state regulatory bodies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience with bio filters, bio scrubbers, and “bug beds” preferred.
- Experience in EHS is an advantage.
