Energy Transition Project Officer
About the role
As an Energy Transition Project Officer at Yarra Ranges Council, you will play a pivotal role in steering our organisation toward net zero emissions by 2040. You’ll lead the implementation of our Energy Transition Plan (ETP), driving tangible progress across Council’s operations while embedding sustainability, electrification, and regenerative design principles into our culture and infrastructure.
This is a high-impact role that spans departments and external partnerships, where you’ll coordinate priority projects, craft business cases for future investment, and establish robust governance and reporting frameworks. Your technical expertise and collaborative spirit will be key to influencing change, building internal capability, and making energy transition a shared responsibility across the organisation.
This is a 5 year full-time temporary position (Project Specific Role) (38 hours per week).
This is a Band 6 role with a salary range between $98,432 and $107,292 per annum, plus superannuation.
Benefits of working with us:
• Support work-life balance with your choice of monthly or fortnightly rostered day off and hybrid working arrangements.
• 20 weeks paid primary caregiver leave (6 weeks for secondary caregivers) plus other generous leave options such as volunteer leave, family planning, study assistance and menstrual and menopause leave.
• Opportunities for professional development and to take on temporary roles in other teams to grow your skills and experience.
• Novated lease vehicle options.
Experience and skills we’re looking for
• Experience in working proactively with internal stakeholders to embed energy transition principles into planning, procurement, asset management and service delivery.
• The ability to promote and implement innovative solutions in electrification, energy efficiency, and regenerative design.
• Build trust and support for change through transparency, collaboration, and alignment with stakeholder motivations.
• Sufficient experience in providing clear expert advice on energy systems, electrification, emissions reduction, technical concepts and sustainable design to internal teams and external partners.
• Assist with budget management and coordinate funding from multiple sources, including operational savings and external grants.
• The ability to approach change positively and adjust quickly when faced with evolving technologies, funding opportunities, or policy shifts.
• Proactively stay up to date with developments in energy policy, technology, and funding, and apply this knowledge to recommend optimal solutions.
• Help teams achieve shared goals by involving them in decisions, sharing information, and demonstrating commitment to Council’s climate and energy targets.
• Great organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with diverse customers.
If you have some but not all these skills or experience, we still encourage you to
apply. Especially if you have the right attitude and willingness to learn.
