Energy & Emissions Officer
About the role
As an Energy & Emissions Officer at Yarra Ranges Council, you will work closely with teams across Property and Facilities, Finance, Information Services and Resilient Environment to strengthen the organisation’s approach to resource and emissions management. You’ll provide specialist expertise to improve data collection, analysis and reporting on energy use and emissions, while also driving sustainable practices that optimise system performance and behaviours. Through this work, you’ll help increase efficiency, reduce emissions and support stronger economic and environmental outcomes for the Council and its community.
This is a full-time permanent (38 hours per week).
This is a Band 5 role with a salary range between $80,490 and $93,709 per annum, plus superannuation.

Experience and skills we’re looking for
• Adapt effectively to changes in energy systems, data processes and organisational priorities, adjusting smoothly as new sustainability initiatives, technologies or reporting requirements are introduced.
• Quickly absorb and apply new information related to emissions accounting, energy management tools and legislative updates to enhance the accuracy and quality of reporting.
• Communicate technical energy and emissions insights clearly to diverse teams so stakeholders understand impacts and can act on the information.
• Make informed decisions by analysing energy data, identifying trends or anomalies, and selecting actions that support efficiency improvements, emissions reduction and operational needs.
• Manage time and resources effectively when coordinating data collection, reporting cycles and cross‑team collaboration to ensure deadlines and project milestones are consistently met.
• Maintain high quality standards by thoroughly checking utility payment files, validating calculations and ensuring all emissions and energy reports are accurate, reliable and aligned with Council requirements.
• Great organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with diverse customers.
