Engineering and Maintenance (Electrical)
Overview
Electrical Engineer for the San Francisco or San Jose, CA office. Be involved in projects with the Property & Buildings Team and help meet client objectives and address challenges.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector.
Assist with research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems across utilities, transportation, buildings, and government projects.
Generate accurate reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, components, and construction specifications; ensure quality that meets industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Collect, compile, and analyze data related to substation components and equipment specifications for procurement packages, design reviews, and compliance with IEEE/NESC/NERC standards.
Review thirdparty design documents, procurement lists, and project plans; perform professional electrical engineering work for single line and threeline diagrams, wiring layouts, grounding, and related design tasks.
Incorporate future-ready techniques, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panels, and conduit/trenching design to ensure safety and functionality for endusers and infrastructure.
Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on components and field equipment applications; provide technical assistance during site investigations and construction procedures.
Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting, and power distribution; prepare data visualizations and presentations as needed.
Maintain quality control standards for measurements, analysis, and reporting; work independently or within crossfunctional teams to execute project work and ensure compliance with permits and specifications.
Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects; contribute to technical reports and presentations to address design and electrical engineering issues.
Assist in field investigations, data interpretation, and development of action plans for risk mitigation; participate in Health and Safety Plan (HASP) development and implementation.
Collaborate with engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities at federal, state, regional, and local levels; adhere to WSPs Code of Conduct and policies.
Required Qualifications
~ Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
~3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in electrical engineering or electrical design
~ Engineer in Training Certification
~ Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design/build processes, and permitting considerations
~ Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design
~ Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand requirements
~ Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping
~ Strong communication skills for engineering and nonengineering audiences; effective selfleadership and attention to detail
~ Ability to learn new techniques, manage multiple priorities, and work independently
~ Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office tools, and modeling software; proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
~ Strong problem-solving skills and safety awareness; able to work beyond typical hours as project demands
~ Occasional travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Engineering
Experience in healthcare and/or Science & Technology design projects
