Program Overview Of Food, Land, And Water
The Food, Land, and Water (FLW) Program at WRI India works to support India’s transition to sustainable and resilient food and land-use systems. The program promotes nature-based solutions such as landscape restoration and sustainable agriculture to address climate change, strengthen rural livelihoods, and improve food and nutrition security. A major focus of the program is supporting policies and financing systems that enable large-scale landscape restoration, while ensuring benefits for communities, biodiversity, and climate.
Job Highlight
WRI India is seeking a Senior Research Analyst – Landscape Restoration to conduct policy and applied research that supports the scaling of restoration initiatives in India. The role will focus on understanding and improving the policy, financing, and institutional conditions needed to scale landscape restoration. The research will examine government programs, public finance mechanisms, and planning processes that influence restoration outcomes. The position will contribute to the ongoing work across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, with a focus on identifying practical solutions that strengthen the enabling ecosystem for restoration. The selected candidate will work closely with WRI India teams and external partners to generate evidence that helps integrate restoration into land-use planning, public programs, and financing frameworks.

What You Will Do
- Research and Analysis (~75%)
- Identifying research priorities related to landscape restoration policy and public finance
- Designing and conducting policy and applied research
- Using qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze restoration programs, incentives, and financing mechanisms
- Reviewing and synthesizing research on restoration policies, public expenditure, and financing models in India and globally
- Tracking policy, regulatory, and budget developments related to land use, climate, agriculture, and forestry
- Analyzing how public schemes and government programs support or constrain restoration efforts
- Applying analytical tools to assess policy effectiveness, financing flows, and program outcomes
- Supporting the development of indicators and monitoring frameworks for restoration initiatives
- Support high-quality research outputs that inform policy and practice based on the Research, Data and Impact (RDI) guidelines adopted by WRI India.

- Supporting the preparation of presentations, blogs, and policy communication materials
- Representing WRI India in selected meetings, workshops, and conferences when required
What You Will Need

- Familiarity with public finance analysis or program evaluation
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent writing and synthesis skills
- Ability to translate research findings into clear policy recommendations
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple research tasks
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience using research databases and analytical tools
- Familiarity with statistical software such as R, Stata, or Python is an advantage
- Proficiency in written and spoken Hindi is an advantage.
