Job Highlight:
We are seeking an Intern (Urban Development) to support the Accelerating Climate Action in Maharashtra program, housed within its climate-sensitive urban development work. We bring deep expertise across its practice areas, spanning climate adaptation and mitigation, urban and regional planning, and governance. As a trusted knowledge partner, we work closely with governments, communities, and research institutions to translate science into policy and on-ground action.
The Accelerating Climate Action in Maharashtra program is backed by the Government of Maharashtra and aims to deliver a high-impact, fast-paced program that translates climate ambition into finance-ready projects. Operating at the intersection of equity, policy, technology, and finance, the program will equip cities and partners to co-develop CAPs and a pipeline of investment- and finance-ready implementable, climate responsive infrastructure projects. WRI India is the anchor institution, supporting city-knowledge partner pairings and learning exchanges, providing technical guidance and capacity building, and ensuring alignment with state and national climate policies.
You will support climate project pipeline development and stakeholder engagement activities of the Accelerating Climate Action in Maharashtra program, including facilitating consultations and supporting stakeholder meetings and workshops, program documentation, case studies, and communication material. The role will also involve coordination with partner organizations, and government agencies.
What will you do:
- Support locking in of climate project pipeline for AMRUT cities in Maharashtra.
- Identify potential urban climate projects in Maharashtra’s cities from primary sources such as discussions city officials and other relevant departments and secondary sources.
- Support planning and execution of roundtable meetings and workshops, stakeholder meetings, and outreach events, including preparatory work, logistics, and on-site coordination.
- Document engagement processes through field notes, photographs, and simple summaries, and support preparation of community-facing material, presentations, and internal reports.
- Support outreach and communication activities, including assisting in the development of communication material and program updates; proficiency in spoken and written Marathi will be essential for effective community interaction and documentation.
What will you need:
- Graduation or Post graduation in Architecture, Planning, Urban/ Environmental/ Development Studies, Public Policy, or allied fields.
- Background in environmental and/or urban development is highly recommended.
- Minimum 1-2 years of work experience in relevant field, with research or project implementation and management experience.
- Strong research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is a requirement. Good working knowledge of other creative and analytics software (Adobe, Python, R etc) is recommended.
- Residence in Mumbai and willing to travel to cities in Maharashtra based on project needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to think creatively and present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work calmly and enthusiastically under pressure.
Stipend: INR 25,000
Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
