Program Overview For Climate Resilience Practice (CRP)
WRI’s CRP team engages in a diverse body of work building on over 10 years of work on climate adaptation. The team specializes on mainstreaming resilience building at sub-national, district and grassroot level and addressing challenges faced by various stakeholders by aligning efforts to help achieving SDGs and India’s Nationally Determined Contributions. The central pillars of CRP's work revolve around integrating adaptation in development planning, pathways of community resilience through locally led adaptation, and enhancing financing options towards building resilience to climate change.

WRI India is seeking a Senior Project Associate to join the Climate Resilience Practice (CRP) team in Chennai. The Associate will support the vision of CRP to help different tiers of the government, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders to mainstream climate change into development planning and policies.
This position is a unique opportunity for those wishing to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research and implementation in the field of climate change planning, institutional capacity building and mobilizing finance for climate action. The Associate will join a team of highly motivated individuals at CRP and work closely with key stakeholders to mainstream climate change (adaptation and mitigation) into overall development planning. The candidate will be involved in both desk research as well as field-based research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis and engagements with government stakeholders at different levels of governance in building knowledge on adaptation strategies, financing mechanisms and building institutional capacity.

What You Will Do
Research & Knowledge
- Support research on district climate proofing
- Undertake GHG and emissions profiling for districts across multiple key sectors
- Data collection and liaising with district departments and Municipal Corporations as required.
- Support in design of climate smart interventions prioritised through needs-based assessments.
- Undertake field visits as necessary to relevant priority districts for gathering information and feedback from diverse stakeholders
- Collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
- Contribute to knowledge products and working papers
- Providing support to other CRP projects as and when required
- Liaising with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders as well as other key identified partners when required
- Planning and implementing state level training programmes for key stakeholders.
- Organizing internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences and other dissemination activities.
What you will need:
- Bachelors’/Master’s Degree in Economics, Environment and Natural Resource Economics, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
- Between 1-3 years of relevant fulltime research work experience in related domains
- Basic understanding of international, national and sub-national climate change policy landscape (SAPCC, NAPCC, NDC, NAP, district and city climate action plans)
- Understanding of adaptation and resilience within climate action
- Understanding of decarbonisation and mitigation pathways
- Relevant experience in GHG and emission profiling across sectors
- Knowledge of ESG, policy and regulatory frameworks relevant to climate change
- Ability to map mitigation and adaptation co-benefits and present quantitative evidence to inform development policy
- Ability to undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analysis of large datasets
- Willingness to participate and lead training and capacity building sessions for various stakeholders as and when required
- Willingness to travel for work and conduct field visits on a regular basis and on short notice
- Ability to work independently and shoulder responsibility
- An analytical and creative mind who can come up with innovative solutions to tackle complex problems
- Fluency in English and Tamil required.
- Good writing and communication skills
