WRc are recruiting for a Technical Assistant to join the Waste and Resources team in Swindon (SN5 8YF).

This is a full time role, working with our lab team, ash team and ‘waste doctors’ to investigate and characterise waste streams and secondary products as required by our clients. This will be circa one third of your time in the WRc waste laboratory and the rest office-based data processing and reporting to our clients (the split will depend on work priorities).

Responsibilities:

  • Routine data processing and tabular / graphical presentation of data to aid interpretation of trends and results using Microsoft packages
  • Set up, run and complete laboratory based experimental work under the supervision of more senior staff following sample analysis plans (SAPs) and W&R procedures
  • Assist in the development of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for site and laboratory work
  • Produce high quality, clear and concise written reports suitable for the intended audience
  • Ensure reports are accurate and meet the aims and objectives set out in the client proposal
  • Ensure compliance with all company Safety, Health & Wellbeing, Environmental compliance, and Quality systems, processes and procedures to ensure timely delivery of all outputs


Person Specification:

  • Minimum of A levels or a degree in a STEM discipline, preferably in chemistry
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite or equivalent – spreadsheets, graphical packages and word documents, (training will be given for use of WRc specific templates)
  • Able to define problems, collect and interpret data, ask questions, draw valid conclusions, and discuss recommendations with the team
  • Able to both follow detailed instructions and innovate, willingly take ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve best solutions
  • Able to present ideas and data in a clear and concise way in discussions and project
