Wozny/Barbar & Associates is a full-service consulting firm with approximately 40 employees with offices in Hanover, MA. We specialize in the design of HVAC, electric, communications, security, AV, heating, ventilation, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, and energy management systems.

The firm was founded in 1988 to provide clients with multi-disciplinary engineering from the conceptual design phase through the construction administration phase.

Our clients include architects, building owners, and developers with a wide array of projects from large residential complexes to university buildings, cultural centers, labs, office buildings, restaurants and warehouses. We are presently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer:

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for producing high -quality CADD/Revit drawings and supporting the full design process from conceptual layouts through final construction documents.  This role involves producing load calculations, equipment selections, and detailed construction documents, while coordinating with project engineers, architects, and other disciplines to ensure integrated, code-compliant, and energy-efficient system designs.

The individual will collaborate closely with project engineers and other design staff to coordinate multi-disciplinary work, contribute to project schedules, and deliver designs on time and within budget. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on a wide range of project types including commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, institutional, and multi-family residential facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Design and model HVAC systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and other engineering software

·         Perform load calculations, energy analysis, and system sizing to ensure performance and efficiency

·         Select HVAC equipment and components based on project requirements, cost, and energy goals

·         Develop construction documents at schematic design, design development, and construction phases

·         Ensure compliance with local building codes, ASHRAE standards, and sustainability guidelines (LEED, Energy Star)

·         Conduct HVAC system surveys and site inspections to verify conditions and ensure installations meet design intent

·         Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical issues

·         Support construction administration by reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and responding to RFIs

Required Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field

·         Minimum of 3–5 years of HVAC/mechanical design experience, preferably on commercial or institutional projects

·         Proficiency in AutoCAD required; Revit strongly preferred. Experience with BIM is a plus.

·         Solid understanding of HVAC design principles, energy modeling, and building code

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Compensation

This position offers a competitive salary in the range of $85-$120k annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid holidays, vacation, sick time, and an employee referral program.

Currently our office policy is 4 days in the office and 1 day remote.
