Director of Advocacy

Job description
This is a UK based contract and as such, you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Evidence of your Right to Work will be checked prior to interview.

If you are an expert at making change happen, this is a unique opportunity to use your skills to deliver a net zero and nature positive world. WWF UK is the largest independent conservation organisation in the world. We brought our Advocacy Department together a year ago to align, strengthen and supercharge our already strong advocacy base and leverage our transformational corporate relationships. We are focused on tackling climate change, food systems and thriving habitats and species. The missing piece is you, as our Director of Advocacy.
A vital role in the fight for our world, as Director of Advocacy you will lead our political and international advocacy to deliver for climate and nature, including our strategy to transform the food and finance sectors by working with business. Leading teams working across public affairs, international advocacy, legal and business advocacy, WWF will look to you to inspire colleagues to use our substantial resources to achieve agreed outcomes against impact goals. You will influence and persuade key decision makers, from politicians to the private sector, of the benefits of effective environmental laws and policy to achieve the changes needed to protect and restore our planet. You will also monitor the political landscape to spot opportunities to influence and encourage your team to identify creative and impactful ways to increase our influence. You will collaborate with colleagues to establish key areas of focus where advocacy and policy levers might effectively create positive environmental change too. Important will be the ability to ensure objectives and activities are developed and delivered in coordination with our devolved offices.
For this key position, you must have extensive experience of developing and implementing advocacy strategies as well as of high-level political campaigning and communications experience. You will possess an outstanding and influential contact list inside and outside government coupled with a record of working with business to drive change in the private sector. You will be used to working with multi-skilled teams and effective at inspiring and motivating direct reports. An excellent project manager, you will also have well-developed interpersonal, influencing and communication skills. You will understand the importance of monitoring and evaluating effectiveness and applying lessons learnt to improve performance too.
We would love to hear from you. Please visit our website via the link, complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up-to-date CV with the Supporting Statement highlighting what makes you a good fit for us.
Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you. Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose. We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.
Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.
