Rooted in communications expertise and a deep understanding of conservation issues, the incumbent bridges conservation, communications, and fundraising priorities. Develops and leads on communications strategies/plans that deliver conservation outcomes and raises brand awareness among key stakeholders. Identifies content ideas and opportunities that can be leveraged to reach diverse audiences (e.g., general, policy, corporate, donors, etc.).
The incumbent will be a dynamic, highly competent communications professional able to lead a step-change in how we strategically plan and deliver communications for our Freshwater & Food goals.
- Leads strategic communications for each Goal, including message development and crisis counsel
- Partners with the Freshwater & Food Goal Lead and subject matter experts to develop, refine, package, and represent conservation programs and strategies
- Translates conservation programs and maps out milestones/key moments for donor, corporate, public, advocacy, and other stakeholder communications
- Supervises and manages the Freshwater and Food communications team, who carry out day-to-day needs for respective goal teams, and integrates themes and messages across initiatives and Goal Teams
- Manages expectations and resources to maximize communications outputs/ROI
- Provides strategic expertise and share knowledge of industry outlets to support media outreach and other external communications
- Runs programmatic communications channels (e.g., partnership websites, social media channels), including counsel and capacity for alliances, partnerships, and coalitions
- Tracks, shares and make recommendations regarding activities and priorities across WWF-US and WWF Network communications teams and other internal and external communities
- With support, creates, edits, reviews and approves communications content and products for internal and external use
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, media, marketing or related subject required.
- Ten to twelve years of professional communications experience. Experience with diverse audiences and geographies preferred.
- Demonstrated success in developing, implementing and managing communications strategies across a wide range of diverse stakeholders and audiences.
- Experience with mission-oriented, strategic communications or brand marketing is desirable
- Experience translating scientific or technical information to a lay audience.
- Experience in conservation desirable
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence and collaborate effectively with key internal and external stakeholders both in the US and overseas to achieve results
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
