Major Function
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Program Officer, US Corporate Climate Engagement, to join our dynamic and influential team based in Washington, DC office. With guidance and support from the Deputy Director, Corporate Climate Engagement, the Program Officer supports key WWF initiatives, including the new Climate Business Network and the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which work with businesses and their supply chains to accelerate climate action. Our work includes helping companies to: set and implement SBTs (including Net Zero), explore opportunities to go beyond these targets and invest in nature-based solutions, navigate the complexities of climate-related claims and to support ambitious climate-related policy.
  • Corporate Climate Target Setting and Implementation Support: Engages and supports WWF corporate climate partners on issues surrounding accounting for value chain greenhouse gas emissions, setting Science-Based Targets and net-zero commitments, strategies for emission reductions, and engaging and mobilizing suppliers. Stays up to date on the landscape of corporate climate methodologies and commitment/implementation/reporting platforms.
  • Corporate Partnerships: Supports the teams’ work on our individual corporate relationship workplans; developing new partner proposals, annual workplans and routine partner communications; collaborating with WWF global network; and the Climate Business Network (community calls, periodic webinars, and in-person topical meetings and the annual conference).
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborates with WWF Private Sector Engagement team, other program goal teams and the WWF global network to advance corporate climate action.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
The position requires knowledge of corporate climate target setting, mitigation strategies, and GHG accounting/reporting standards (e.g. Greenhouse Gas Protocol). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in corporate climate target setting and business-NGO collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree required, with a Master’s in a relevant field such as climate and environmental studies, economics, or business preferred.
  • Position requires 4 to 6 years program or other professional experience or advanced degree with 2 plus years experience. Background in consulting or other direct engagement with corporate sustainability teams is a plus.
  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability landscape as well as climate-related methodologies and platforms (e.g. Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)) relevant to corporate climate ambition and implementation preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and project management skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate with independence, effectively plan and prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals and cultures.
