Forests Forward is WWF’s corporate engagement platform for forests and we are looking for an dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced communications professional to develop and implement a communications strategy to drive expansion of the platform, expand its external visibility, and generate increased engagement and excitement internally. This will include support to long-time participants, such as IKEA, where there is a strong communications component in the delivery of the partnership objectives.


Responsibilities and deliverables


The Forests Forward Communications Manager will be responsible for designing and implementing a communications strategy for the global Forests Forward platform. This will include developing a compelling narrative for internal and external audiences as well as the development of stories, blogs, case studies, guides and website text and support to related events. The role will also be expected to provide communications support to the IKEA-WWF partnership under the Forests for Life workstream, as well as support to other Forests Forward participants as required.

Timely initiation, development and delivery of high-quality communications products and coordination of communications via WWF’s Forest community and related knowledge sharing points will be essential. The role is characterized by a high degree of independence and the responsibility for planning and driving the work forward.


Your duties will include to:

  • lead and coordinate the development, delivery and monitoring of the Forests Forward communications strategy, including workplan and calendar, to increase the platform’s profile, as well as internal and external engagement and collaboration
  • lead content creation of compelling, impact-focused stories and social media activity about successful Forests Forward related activities and initiatives
  • manage the internal Forests Forward portal, Forests Forward website and participant portal, and wider WWF forest sector webpages, as needed
  • collaborate with project teams across Forests Forward partnerships to source ideas and stories and co-create communications products, blogs, case studies and guides
  • lead on the development and delivery of event strategies and communications materials for priority forestry/financial/sourcing and supply chain events
  • lead on communications for the Forests for Life workstream under the IKEA-WWF partnership, including website, social media activity and audio-visual stories and content for events and conferences
  • provide communications support to other Forests Forward participants, including existing and prospective members.
  • provide communications input during partnership and project development stage
  • work with relevant teams to develop crisis communications plans to address negative issues
  • ensure alignment with the WWF International communications and brand guidelines, and be an active member of the Forest Practice, liaising closely with the Global Forest Communications Lead
  • oversee internal briefings, community calls and coordination, working closely with the Forests Forward Leader and team.

To fit into the role, we would like you to have the following background:

  • At least 10 years' work experience in an area relevant to the position
  • Able to work collaboratively in a dynamic, international hybrid team format
  • Good administrative ability and discipline for communications planning and execution
  • Excellent ability to collaborate in networks and in groups
  • Proven skills in inspiring and compelling written communications
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design programs
  • Experience of web content management and managing multiple social media platforms
  • Excellent spoken and written English, as this is the working language for this role

Woking schedule:
Full time, (100 %).

Duration: 18 months, with a possibility for extension. We apply a six-month probationary period.
