Purpose of Job

This senior manager position is to lead and manage the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme to contribute towards WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2021-2030. ESD is a cornerstone for social mobilization, to mainstream and create groundswell for sustainable development. The key target audiences of ESD are students and youth which entails collaboration with the relevant government agencies, school communities, tertiary education institutions, youth CSOs, media and others.

The incumbent will guide and mentor the ESD team, to ensure effective delivery of outcomes and impacts. He/she will integrate monitoring, risk management and social policies into the Programme. Proposal development for fundraising as well as progress reporting are part of the key responsibilities. He/she is expected to engage with various internal and external stakeholders for collaboration and synergies.


1. Co-create and enhance the ESD Strategy 3.0 together with the team and important stakeholders to formulate strategic directions and interventions, as well as for monitoring purpose.

2. Lead, adaptively manage and monitor the ESD programme to ensure effective implementation of the interventions and activities.

3. Ensure ESD Programme supports and leverages on other conservation programmes of WWF-Malaysia

4. Oversee communications, risk management and integration of social policies in ESD Programme.

5. Regular monitoring of progress and timely submission of progress reports.

6. Strategize fundraising effort, establish/maintain relationship with donors, develop and submit funding proposals

7. Establish and maintain strategic partnerships (local, national and international levels) to strengthen the impact of ESD events and being inclusive in reaching out to the target groups.

8. Integrating behavior science, innovation, citizen science, social entrepreneurship in the implementation of the ESD strategy.

9. Participate actively in relevant WWF Network global communities of practice.

10. Increase ESD capacity within and beyond WWF-Malaysia.


1. Lead and develop the ESD Strategy (Phase 3 planning), with emphasis on the quality and quantity of outreach, scalable, youth oriented and cross-cut with WWF-Malaysia landscape, seascape and thematic programmes.

2. Ensure all ESD team members are engaged and aligned. Devise annual workplans for ESD team to ensure the Planned Intermediate Results will be achieved.

3. Ensure ESD team members are well informed on the progress, challenges and new development of ESD or EE in Malaysia and other network offices. This will be achieved through regular catch-up calls and any other structured sharing platform.

4. Monitor the progress of deliverables and budgets based on KPIs and PIRs, apply adaptive management where appropriate.

5. Provide advices to the supervisor on emerging issues of relevance, provide meaningful support to key events, promote and manage the team’s support for any new initiatives, including periodical reports, presentation slides, preparation.

6. To coordinate and complete ESD programme’s periodical progress reports such as QTR and TPR technical reports, CAC dashboard slides, financial reports, etc.

7. To prepare the annual programme budget, workplan and all necessary information in connection with the annual budget process.

8. To coordinate and follow up with any funding opportunities including writing and submission of proposals, actively engaging with the Marketing and Public Sector Partnership teams.

9. To ensure the promotion, strategic communication interventions (such as press statement, LTE) and media coverage are planned and managed effectively.

10. To coordinate training and enrichment programmes for the ESD team (e.g. pedagogy and andragogy based training, leadership, teamwork etc.).

11. Any other work as assigned by the supervisor from time to time that are aligned with the ESD Strategy and/or WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2021-2030.


1. Preferably a graduate with a degree in education, behavior science, sustainable development or related subjects. Skills in instructional design and/or communication are an added advantage.

2. Minimum working experience of ten (10) years in education or sustainability related fields with NGOs, corporate or civil service. Possess managerial and supervisory experience.

3. Mature, able to work with minimal supervision, and has the capacity to make decisions and act on issues with professionalism.

4. Excellent written and oral skills in both English language and Bahasa Malaysia.

5. Must be computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to partners, stakeholders and potential donors.

6. Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile, ability to work in a team and work independently. Has excellent organising and management skills. Knowledge and experience in Project Management is an added advantage.

7. Good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on environmental education and conservation issues.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Salary: RM6,000.00 - RM9,000.00 per month
