Project Site: Cagayan de Oro City and Siargao Island

Reports to: Project COPE Project Manager

Period Covered: August-September 2025

BACKGROUND

WWF-Philippines invites qualified suppliers to submit proposals for the procurement of containers modified as materials recovery facilities (MRF) and to support the Circular Operations for a Plastic pollution-free Environment (COPE) Project. The project aims to enhance waste segregation and solid waste management in selected project areas within Cagayan de Oro City and Siargao Island.

WWF-Philippines is a non-profit organization that works to improve Filipino lives by crafting solutions to climate change and conserving the country’s richest marine and land habitats. WWF is currently implementing the "No Plastics in Nature Initiative (NPIN)”, a global initiative that aims to stop plastic waste leakage into nature by 2030 through the elimination of unnecessary plastics, doubling reuse, recycling, and recovery, and ensuring remaining plastics are sourced responsibly.

Project COPE works with local government units and waste workers –– particularly from select barangays in Cagayan de Oro City and the municipalities of Del Carmen and General Luna in Siargao Island –– in piloting a replicable system for solid waste management. This includes enhancing waste collection and segregation. Through this procurement, the provision of infrastructure such as MRFs will help support regular waste collection schedules, ensure proper waste handling, and alleviate challenges faced by areas with inconsistent waste collection due to narrow roads and other logistical issues.

PROJECT GOALS

The equipment will be deployed to benefit selected barangays and waste workers in Cagayan de Oro City and Siargao Island. This initiative is part of WWF-Philippines' commitment to:

  • Encourage proper waste segregation.
  • Support local solid waste management efforts.
  • Prevent the leakage of plastic into the open environment.
