Internship Summary:


This position offers a remarkable professional growth opportunity for a talented early-career communications professional who wants to help solve the world’s most urgent problems. The successful candidate will be an important member of a dynamic global research organization working to solve pressing sustainability challenges in such areas as food, forests, water, energy, cities, climate and the ocean. Reporting to WRI’s Web Producer, the Digital Content Intern will be a member of WRI’s Digital Team within Core Communications — a central group that guides and supports the communications work across WRI’s global network. This position will support content production for WRI’s institutional website (WRI.org), as well as the organization’s internal intranet.

WRI.org Support (75%) The majority of your work will surround content and administrative support for WRI.org. You will help guide and implement updates to the site, which may include updating copy; building new project pages, articles, press releases, and other sections of the website; and conducting research for photos and captions to support digital content. Much of this work will be done using the Drupal content management system, which powers the site.

Internal Communications Support (25%) You will also provide support to the Internal Communications team to post and update content on WRI’s intranet, Banyan, and assist in content migration to the new version of the SharePoint-based platform.

Internship Learning Outcomes:

  • Compose web content for WRI web properties, primarily WRI’s flagship digital platform, WRI.org
  • Post news items and update page content for WRI’s intranet
  • Upload online content and digital assets for articles, events, and other related website pages
  • Conduct photo research for articles and other online content, drafting pithy and accurate captions, and appropriate and accessible alt text
  • Participate in strategic brainstorms around upcoming events and opportunities to amplify WRI’s articles, webinars, and research
  • Work with and learn from experts in WRI’s Communications & Engagement Community
  • Other tasks as required to support the Digital Communications and Editorial teams

Internship Qualifications:

  • Pursuing or completed undergraduate or graduate student in communications or related field is desirable
  • Strong interest in digital communications
  • Be highly organized, detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience with Drupal or other conventional content management systems preferred
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Be able to efficiently track and advance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Have an interest in digital communications and/or marketing
  • Have a keen eye for compelling visuals
  • Be comfortable utilizing MS Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • An interest in environment, international development, and/or sustainability preferred
  • Be comfortable interning remotely

Compensation

The pay range for this internship opportunity is between $16-20/hour, commensurate with qualifications.

Duration and Location

  • This is a full-time, 6-months internship with flexible start and end dates based on the student’s availability and needs for the project.
  • This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.
  • WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
