Job Summary:

WRI requires a self-motivated, smart, detail oriented and highly organized individual to drive institutional operational effectiveness and excellence programs across the WRI network. This is a position for someone seeking to work in a multi-functional role including, process excellence, operational effectiveness, financial planning, Project and Results Management, Operations, HR, Information technology, legal and regulatory areas. This role will also help build the Financial planning and Project & Results Management function at WRI Europe. The successful candidate will report to the Global Operations Director for WRI and will be expected to lead the streamlining of current practices and identifying innovative solutions to the above functions for WRI offices around the world. It is expected that this individual would be an expert on all the core functional systems used across the WRI network and would provide leadership and active support to WRI teams across all its International offices to use these systems. The candidate should be willing to travel at short notice to WRI’s offices around the world to support colleagues in these offices on a variety of operational issues. The role might require out of regular office hours working times to account for time zone differences with WRI’s International offices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Global Operations Director to lead the implementation of the Institutional Operational effectiveness tool for WRI
  • Work closely with the Global Operations Director to lead the Process Excellence function at WRI
  • Be a part of the core team for the IT Strategy refresh for WRI
  • Support the Quarterly financial review process and the Indirect budget management for Europe
  • Special focus on Africa: institute a monthly organizational review process for tracking outcomes and financials across all programs in the office
  • Lead the PM (and possibly PMEL) support for Europe office
  • Work closely with the Global Operations Director to lead on facilitating the Global Operations team to support operations in all of WRI’s International offices
  • Lead on facilitating the roll out of trainings on new and existing processes and systems to operations teams in all the International offices as necessary.
  • Lead and manage the process of creating the Global Operations Five year strategy and annual Global Operations plans
  • Actively facilitate the interactions between operations teams across all WRI International offices
  • Lead on communications to build the profile of the operations function across WRI
  • Lead on the organization of Global Operations Team meetings and retreats following up on agreed actions
  • Establish oneself as an expert on all core function systems and processes across WRI. Be capable of build capacity of new staff at various levels on these systems and processes
  • Lead and manage the rollout of the internal reviews process across all the International offices
  • Identify systemic issues across all offices and lead on facilitating solutions through the members of the Global Operations Team to these issues

Job Qualifications:

  • A degree in business, non-profit management or HR with some exposure to financial and compliance management is the ideal qualifications for prospective candidates. We are willing to consider a candidate with a different academic background but with a track record of working across multiple functions and demonstrable ability to learn about new functional areas
  • 6-9 years of work experience in any of the above or related fields
  • Adaptable and flexible to shifting opportunities, priorities and needs. Should be able to deal with high levels of ambiguity and work with team members to find practical solutions.
  • Flexible individual who can work independently, with little direction and supervision.
  • Strong computer skills including high level of comfort with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc), web-based communications (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom, etc.), and Internet research.
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of multiple international languages will be advantageous
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, global workplace
  • Interest in environmental issues is a plus
  • Capability to learn and use software applications that are used by WRI.
  • Strong analytical capabilities

Potential Salary:


€ 60-000-€ 81,000
Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
