Program Overview:

About the Asia Clean Energy Coalition: There is an urgent need to raise awareness within governments and other stakeholders of the significant and growing volume of corporate renewable energy demand and the potential for private sector clean energy investments to help countries meet their energy and climate objectives, and leverage increased renewables deployment to foster more ambitious climate action across Asia. The Climate Group (RE100), CDP, Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Global Solar Council (GSC), and the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA) (the “Founding Partners”) are therefore establishing the Asia Clean Energy Coalition to enable corporate procurement of renewable energy, and accelerate overall supply of renewable energy, across Asia. The Asia Clean Energy Coalition will amplify local and regional voices for policy change by bringing to bear strong political leverage: both on individual governments and by spurring regional competitive dynamics between governments that can accelerate individual and regional market reforms and drive investment in net-zero solutions.

In particular, the Asia Clean Energy Coalition convenes corporate buyers, sellers and investors of renewable energy in Asia to align and reinforce recommendations for policy and regulatory environments in the region, which unlock the creation, growth, and scaled ambition of corporate renewable energy markets in support of NDCs and Science Based Targets. The Asia Clean Energy Coalition will be established in 2022 for an initial period of five years. The first year will be focused on getting the operational aspects of the Asia Clean Energy Coalition up and running, with a primary focus on driving market evolution to support corporate sourcing of renewable electricity. In subsequent years, the Asia Clean Energy Coalition will build upon this foundation to deepen support for decarbonisation as opportunities for impact arise.
