WRI India, an independent charity legally registered as the India Resources Trust, provides objective information and practical proposals to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable development. WRI India’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. Through research, analysis, and recommendations, WRI India puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being.
We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organization. Currently over 150 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Program Overview for Sustainable Cities and Transport

About your role:
WRI India is seeking a Programmer who will be an integral member of WRI India’s Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities - GeoAnalytics team and will work on a variety of data driven analyses across our core practice areas, leveraging data, information and technical expertise to make informed urban infrastructure choices and design The programmer would work closely with the Cities Hydrogen team to support transition to a low carbon economy through applied research, tools, hands-on advice, and by tapping our network of Indian and international experts. As part of WRI’s initiative toward Sustainable Low Carbon Hydrogen, we will be conducting research on how hydrogen as a fuel/feedstock can enable decarbonization of industrial, transport and power sectors in India.
Transitioning to low carbon feedstocks and energy for industry, transport and power requires a carefully planned strategy that envisions the merging of the various sectors. Towards this end, we invite qualified candidates to support the team in conducting core analytical expertise, customized visualization and interfaces that help in producing insights for enabling hydrogen adoption across various applications such as industry, transport, shipping & ports, and energy storage.
How your day will unfold:
- Develop, execute, and optimize scripts for data acquisition, processing, analysis, and modelling on projects related to industrial zones, renewable energy resources, water availability, gas networks, and transport corridors inc road, rail, and shipping
- Work closely with the project teams to assess and organize complex data assets from a variety of sources for spatial modeling, preferable experience with remote sensing and GIS data
- Conduct data exploration and quantitative research, implement algorithms and provide customized analytical solutions and insights to meet project requirements
- Develop and prepare interactive dashboards, interfaces and applications (mobile and web)
- Maintain source code integrity in Github with proper coding practices and documentation
Qualifications and requirements we seek:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related fields. Master’s degree with specialization in GeoInformatics is preferred.
- 4-7 years of relevant work experience. Work experience in geospatial industry would be a plus
- Experience in cloud computing with AWS, Azure, and Google cloud strongly preferred
- Big data handling (Hadoop) is a strong plus
- Experience in Business modeling tools such as Tableau and PowerBI
- Proficiency in GIS software including ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 10.x, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Quantum GIS, MapInfo or similar is a strong plus
Salary and Benefits: 11,00,000 to 13,00,000 PA
Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)
