Woodwell Climate Research Center (Woodwell) conducts science for solutions at the nexus of climate, people, and nature. We partner with leaders and communities for just meaningful impact to address the climate crisis.
The Science on the Fly Director/Research Assistant manages the day-to-day operations of Science on the Fly (SOTF). This includes coordinating volunteers, fundraising, and marketing of the SOTF program, as well as creating and implementing new SOTF programs. The SOTF Director also participates in data analysis and communication of results to public audiences.
- Correspondence with volunteers, funders, Woodwell and SOTF team
- Managing other SOTF team members, including Woodwell staff
- Fundraising campaigns
- Secure donations
- Create momentum and awareness around campaign
- Create and send monthly newsletters to both volunteers and supporters
- Onboard and educate prospective volunteers
- Oversee shipping sample supplies, merchandise, and receiving samples.
- Help with the production of new merchandise and marketing materials
- Oversee social media
- Develop partnerships/campaigns with like-minded organizations
Required Qualifications and Experience
- MA/MS degree in related field plus at least three years’ experience; or BA/BS degree plus five years’ experience, appropriate for requirements of job
- Minimal supervision required
- Supervise and schedule work of other research assistants or interns
- Experience interacting with stakeholders, including natural resource managers
- Social media marketing skills
- Fundraising experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative environment
- Familiarity with the fly-fishing community
In the office:
- Ability to tolerate sustained periods of walking, standing, sitting
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- Ability to communicate
- Ability to kneel, bend, and carry items
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Frequent phone use required
- Ability to use computer
- Repetitive movements
- Air, train, vehicle travel to attend meetings/event
In the field, the physical requirements of this role include:
- Air, train, vehicle travel to access field locations
- Driving a vehicle or ATV to access field locations
- Walking, hiking, climbing to access field locations
- Paddling, canoeing to access field locations
- Standing and sitting for sustained periods
- Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling
- Reaching overhead
- Climbing ladders
- Use of manual and power tools including shovels, saws, drills, and hammers
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs up to 10 times/day
- Ability to carry up to 25lbs up to 10 times/day
- Ability to push/pull up to 25lbs up to 10 times/day
- A variety of environments, both indoor and outdoor
Hours of Work
- This role is paid on a salary basis.
- Typically, full-time employees work 40 hours during a Monday through Friday workweek. However, this is a salaried position. Therefore, the individual is expected to work as required to complete the duties of the position. This may mean weekend hours and/or hours beyond 40 per week.
