MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Woodio is a Finnish interior design brand with a mission to fight climate change. Our product range is made from our signature material called Woodio®. It is a fully waterproof wood composite that offers a low carbon alternative to ceramic sanitary ware and stone-based composites. All Woodio products are made in Lahti, Finland, at our brand-new state-of-the-art factory.

Are you experienced in developing material and finding sustainable solutions?

We are now looking for a material development engineer to further develop our material, bring new features and improve sustainability?

During the last 2 years, we have successfully improved our sustainability by 60% but the work is not done as we want to improve even more. The main topics you will be working with are increasing the biocontent of our material through biobased resins and biofillers, develop recyclability of our material, finding ecological solutions for improving fire resistance and also introducing ecologic coatings for our production.

You will work as part of the development team, side-by-side with our product development, product management and production teams, making sure we get the best out of our material properties. 

Our Ideal Candidate has strong experience and background in material science and development. He/ she also: 

· Has a relevant education: M.Sc., in material science, biomaterials, chemistry, polymer technology or similar. 

· At least 5 years of work experience in material development, preferably composites

· Is familiar with material testing related standards and is willing to understand and learn bathroom and kitched related material requirements

· Understanding and experience in LCA calculations 

· Hands on attitude, willingness and interest to produce and test samples and also coordiate tests with ourside partners

· The ability to work both independently and in a team. 

· Has excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think out-of-the box.

· Has a solution-oriented mindset and positive can-do attitude 

· Understands the importance of excellent quality and customer satisfaction being a top priority.

· Is fluent in both Finnish and English.

Your Main Responsibilities: 

· Ownership of our material and related documentation

· Material testing and compliance with related standards and customer requirements

· Material development related to for example to following topics:

• Biobased resin
• Biofiller
• Ecological coatings
• Fire resistance

· Chemical safety and chemical related equipment management

· Development of gluing and gluing process

The position is full-time and based in Moukarikatu 13, Lahti, requiring frequent presence on site. You will be part of Woodio’s development team and collaborate closely also with the sales and production teams.
