About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic, fully remote team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining our modern data architecture that supports real-time analytics, machine learning, and customer-facing insights. You will collaborate closely with product management, hardware teams, and data scientists to develop scalable, reliable data pipelines and storage solutions. Your expertise will help shape our data ecosystem, enabling us to deliver actionable intelligence to optimize energy consumption and enhance building management systems. The ideal candidate will be passionate about data modeling, architecture, and engineering, with a focus on delivering high-performance solutions that support our mission of sustainability and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, working with large-scale, high-throughput systems
  • Proven expertise in designing dimensional models and OLAP schemas (fact/dimension tables)
  • Deep understanding of columnar databases and internals such as ClickHouse, Druid, StarTree, or Pinot
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python for data pipeline development
  • Experience handling updates, inserts, and type-2 dimensions in time-series or event stores
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably AWS
  • Experience with orchestrating ETL/ELT workflows using tools like Airflow, Dagster, or AWS Step Functions
  • Familiarity with stream processing technologies such as Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming
  • Ability to work within core hours aligned with Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product management to understand use cases and develop data solutions that enhance user experience
  • Design and own schema and data models for energy metering and building management system data
  • Architect and maintain cost-effective, high-performance data storage solutions, including modern databases like ClickHouse or StarTree
  • Lead the development of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and serve data efficiently
  • Ensure optimal performance and efficiency of analytical queries across large datasets
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards, validation protocols, and governance policies
  • Support real-time IoT analytics and streaming pipelines for high-fidelity energy data
  • Manage BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Superset to facilitate data visualization and reporting
  • Contribute to the development of internal data tools aimed at engineers and analysts
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to support model training, inference pipelines, and feature engineering
  • Work closely with web and application teams to ensure seamless data access for real-time and batch processing
  • Manage team projects, coordinate with technical leads, and mentor junior engineers
  • Participate in technical hiring to build a strong, collaborative engineering team
