Principal safety assessor
If you are an expert in providing radiological and chemotoxic safety assessment services and support join us! We would like to hire the Principal Safety Assessor (Radiological & Chemotoxic) to manage and maintain the Site program for the preparation and review of Safety Cases. This role reports to Senior Nuclear Safety Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the development and modification of safety cases through authoring, verifying and managing Safety Case documentation, including:
- Hazard identification, Hazard Assessments (HAZANs), deterministic and quantitative assessments, designation of proportionate safety measures and ALARP justification
- Conducting Radiological and Chemotoxic safety assessments for both internal and external hazards
- Developing Safety Case strategies and/or devising key Safety Case arguments
- Liaison with engineering, plant operators and other specialist safety disciplines, e.g. Human Factors, Fire, Criticality, Radiological Shielding, Environmental, to present coherent and comprehensive safety cases
- Providing direct and Intelligent Customer oversight of safety assessment resource including contractors
- Provide oversight of framework contracts with supply chain
- Managing the Springfields Site Safety Case Process including the Periodic Review program
- Provide Safety Case process training to Site Personnel
- Supporting appropriate national working groups e.g. Safety Case Forum
Qualifications and Experience:
- You will be a highly skilled and experienced radiological/chemotoxic safety assessor who has excellent report writing skills and mentoring abilities
- Degree (min 2:2) in a relevant discipline or equivalent, with typically at least 5 years (SQEP 3) relevant nuclear safety experience
- Deep expertise in radiological/chemotoxic safety techniques
- Demonstrable experience of Safety Case production and management for all stages of plant lifecycle from concept design to decommissioning, hazard identification, fault analysis, Design Basis Accident (DBA) assessment, Barrier Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), radiological/chemotoxic consequence assessment, development of safety functional requirements, ALARP assessment
- In depth knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards
- Proven leadership skills
- Excellent customer service manner with strong listening and interpersonal skills
- Flexible in approach to support effective delivery
- HAZOP Chair experience would be an advantage
- Minimum SC Security Clearance
