The Database Administrator SQL Server is a key role for delivering Database Administration services for SQL Server Environments at Westinghouse. The primary area of responsibility for this position will be a working database administrator and requires significant technical expertise in designing, building, tuning, installing, configuring, troubleshooting and management of databases for SQL Server.


Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, tests, recommends and installs upgrades of database software, including patches and major releases

  • Performs database backup and recovery as required, including periodic testing

  • Upgrade, configure and maintain server and database monitoring software to baseline system performance and proactively identify (and remedy) potential issues. Resource monitoring and capacity planning.

  • Review, test, update and document detailed disaster recovery/business continuity plans for key production servers

  • Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers

  • Create documentation for all procedures and systems.

  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security, controlling and monitoring user access to the database

  • The primary duties of this position occur during business hours, however there is some evening and weekend work related to projects, planned maintenance, and on-call support


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or related field

  • 3+ years of proven support in a complex SQL Server database environments

  • Experience with SQL Server standalone and clustered environments

  • Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems.

  • Proven experience executing all areas of database administration on current technologies

  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for critical database, networking and system administration issues

  • Critical thinking skills, ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions

  • Ability to handle diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities with deadlines

  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work effectively under pressure and with a high degree of independence. Effective in meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to fully document technical design and related project or systems-level documentation

  • Ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, and management to troubleshoot issues, develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in

  • Must have professional demeanor, positive attitude, and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills in the English language

  • Works with minimal supervision and receives general direction from the Database Administrator Supervisor

  • Must be able to work independently or in teams on assigned tasks with a high degree of technical judgment

  • Availability to work from office 2 days per week in Kraków
