Industrial Power and Automation Controls Engineer
Shape the future of clean energy—one system at a time
Step into the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility and picture your first week. You’re embedded with a multidisciplinary team, walking the production floor with maintenance, operations, and safety partners, translating real-world needs into engineered solutions. By Friday, you’ve sketched a controls architecture, mapped an installation sequence, and aligned stakeholders on a testing plan—all in service of Westinghouse’s mission to deliver safe, clean energy.
Your role, day to day
- Drive the full lifecycle of plant modifications—from concept development and cost estimation through detailed electrical/controls design, installation support, and equipment qualification.
- Engineer updates to DC, single-phase AC, and three-phase AC power systems to meet performance and safety objectives.
- Design and integrate new or modified control systems, specifying hardware and I/O to align with project scope.
- Select and define instrumentation, servos, and drives to achieve precise process control.
- Produce and revise P&IDs, electrical elementaries, and loop sheets to reflect changes accurately.
- Author technical documentation for equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
- Communicate project impacts and progress clearly to stakeholders at every level of the organization.
Where you’ll sit
You’ll report to the Manager, Design Engineering and Project Management and work on-site at our Columbia, SC facility in a hybrid remote/in-office arrangement.
