Plan and assign work, implement policies and procedures and recommend and implement improvement in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions that continuously improve Safety, Quality, & Productivity/Performance of the department for which they are leading.

Your Day to Day:

  • Plan, organize, communicate, and monitor department resources to achieve effective utilization of employees, equipment, and material.
  • Foster a safety and quality conscious environment through the use and reinforcement of Human Performance and Nuclear Safety Culture traits.
  • Assure personnel compliance to safety, regulatory, and quality requirements. Monitor personnel and area to observe unfavorable trends through utilization of Visual Management and observations. Communicate discrepancies and solicit support as needed.
  • Determine task performance/skill requirements. Evaluate employee skill levels through utilization of the training skills matrixes, focus training plans on deficiencies, and reinforce employee development and training.
  • Create area metrics and reports concerning activities of assigned department.
  • Through standardized huddle meetings, area learning clocks and visual management, communicate and reinforce goals and the performance of the area including any changes to policies, etc.
  • Maintain established employee relations policies and safety/health regulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend pay increases, promotions, transfers, and other personnel actions. Interview job candidates and make hiring decisions to fill any open positions.
  • Retain sufficient expertise to evaluate personnel and monitor area performance. Apply analytical skills to production or equipment issues to initiate proper corrective action.
  • Participate and lead improvement projects.
  • Identify and implement process/continuous improvements in assigned department.

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent plus five or more years in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Solid knowledge of area technical requirements.
  • Experience with ceramics is preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience is required.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate Company and departmental objectives to Staff.
  • Must be able to lead teams and participation on teams.
  • Listening skills, as well as, ability to articulate explanations are critical.
  • Need to gain cooperation and build relationships to meet production objectives.
  • Original thinking required for problem solving and some flexibility in decision making.
  • Applies planning/scheduling tools and computer skills to communicate plans and report performance.
  • Solicit input and recommendations from employees.
  • Prioritization of multiple and sometimes conflicting needs of the area.
