About the role:
As a Project Issue Manager you will join a newly established team within the Long-Term Operations (LTO) Strategic Project Management Office (SPMO). Reporting to the Senior Project Issue Manager, you will support both the broader LTO project management community and internal strategic initiatives. Your contributions will directly influence project outcomes, customer satisfaction, and the development of future project management capabilities. You can be based at any of our locations in Burlington/Kitchener/Peterborough, Ontario, Canada location and work a hybrid/mobile schedule of up to 2 - 3 days per week in the office.
This role is tailored for engineers with 4–6 years of experience looking for a steppingstone into project management or exploring a pathway toward business leadership. It offers a valuable opportunity to build foundational skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and other transferable skills. As a highly visible position within the organisation, you will gain exposure to senior leaders across the LTO organization. Additionally, you will help shape the strategic direction of the Project Issue Team and help develop a training framework to help grow future Project Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the resolution of medium to high complexity, high-impact and time-sensitive issues across the LTO project management community by applying structured problem-solving techniques to ensure resolution aligns with project and organisational objectives.
You will operate within a global project environment, requiring collaboration across international teams and time zones. You will lead global, cross-functional teams while fostering strong relationships and leveraging global expertise across disciplines.
You will mitigate risks that could impact project cost, schedule, and performance. Your work will directly impact customer satisfaction by ensuring timely resolution of issues that could affect project delivery, quality, or performance.
Document lessons learned during issue closeout and integrate best practices to improve the Project Issue Management Team's effectiveness and operating model.
Support the SPMO and LTO teams in advancing LTO project management through strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with experienced Project Managers to gain exposure to project leadership and stakeholder engagement.
Complete required training in Westinghouse systems, procedures, and policies within 12 months of hire and demonstrate readiness to lead Tier 3 and 4 projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in a technical or engineering lead role within a technical industry such as engineering, manufacturing, nuclear, or construction.
Willingness to pursue the Project Management Institute's Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is encourage
