This is a key position on the plant engineering team. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide leadership in new process and product development and delivery to customer commitments. Regarding new product and process, the role is to evaluate the current manufacturing processes and identify, develop, and implement new methods to achieve quality, on-time and in-full delivery, piece yield, rework, and productivity to meet identified customer requirements in addition to serving as the main contact for the execution of strategic Westinghouse global initiatives as tied to the Specialty Metals Plant. This position manages 3-4 direct reports and directly interfaces with customers, auditors, and program managers.


Your day to day:

  • Analyze trends and assign resources to correct trending quality problems associated with manufacturing processes
  • Coordinate with stakeholder organizations to successfully provide feedback, plan and execute new product development initiatives
  • Lead application of modern engineering science (such as lean manufacturing concepts, six-sigma methodology, and statistical process analysis) theories to continuously improve efficiency of manufacturing processes.
  • Lead development of cost savings and process improvement initiatives related to zirconium tube products and manufacturing
  • Lead development, qualification, and implementation of new tubing products and equipment to meet customer needs
  • Drive process and product development projects and related strategic actions
  • Implement process monitoring methods to identify when a process is not producing a quality product and develop reaction plans. Employ poka-yoke or mistake-proofing methods, process monitoring technology, and procedural methods
  • Analyze and recommend utilization of technological innovations in machinery and manufacturing techniques to solve and stabilize manufacturing concerns.
  • Support the specification, development and qualification of new equipment associated with new and existing tube product manufacturing
  • Lead full-scale development and review of manufacturing and quality plans, production templates, and qualification reports for new products and processes. Populate drawings and specifications into the manufacturing execution and laboratory systems
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external Westinghouse organizations
  • Lead, coach, develop and manage the performance of direct reports to achieve goals and objectives, continuously striving to improve effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ensure alignment with process/product line and center-led quality functions. Ensure implementation of appropriate metrics in each
  • Manage departmental budget and forecast and control expenditures accordingly

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline. A Master of Science degree in Engineering or Business/Business Administration is preferred
  • 5-10 years of managerial experience (project or personnel) in a similar role in a highly regulated manufacturing environment (Nuclear/Energy/Oil & Gas, Automotive, Aerospace, Defense, Food or Telecommunications). Existing experience in nuclear component manufacturing is highly desired.
  • Six Sigma, PMP, Lean Manufacturing, or other process certifications are encouraged
  • Ability to establish key relationships cross-functionally across manufacturing and design organizations.
  • Experience in establishment and launch of new processes or products in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of process improvement principles such as Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Statistical Process Control and capability studies, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of problem-solving and causal analysis techniques such as Corrective Actions and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Requires bold ideas, an entrepreneurial mindset and collaboration across boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated history of driving improvements with measurable results.
  • Effective in the change management process.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, large-scale, complex activities at one time.
  • Ability to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risk in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Effective and timely decision making often with limited information and/or time.
  • Measurement systems analysis and print drawing familiarity.
  • Product launch and manufacturing readiness familiarity.
