We are searching for a Solar Technician on behalf of our client. This is a 4-months contract assignment.(W-2)
This is a Solar Commissioning & Repair Technician Department: Distributed Generation (DG) Operations
Reports To: Lead Project Manager / Operations Manager
Travel Required: Up to 75%
The DG Solar Commissioning & Repair Technician is responsible for the commissioning and repair of distributed generation solar facilities. This role supports DG solar assets from initial energization and system verification through corrective repairs. The technician will work across multiple sites, coordinating with contractors, engineers, and operations teams to ensure systems perform safely and to design specifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning — Execute commissioning plans for new DG solar installations including inverter startup, tracker system verification, SCADA/communications validation, and utility interconnection testing
- Troubleshooting & Repair — Diagnose and repair issues with PV modules, inverters, combiner boxes, solar trackers, motor control cards, and balance-of-system components
- Tracker Systems — Troubleshoot and repair single-axis tracker systems (including Valmont and similar platforms), including motor replacement, MCC card diagnostics, and RMA processing
- Electrical Systems — Perform testing and inspection of AC/DC electrical systems including string testing, IV curve tracing, thermal imaging, and grounding verification
- Documentation — Maintain accurate commissioning records, as-built markups, punch lists, and repair logs; submit RMA forms and support warranty claims
- Safety & Compliance — Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards including arc flash PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures
- Contractor Coordination — Work alongside EPC contractors and subcontractors during commissioning phases and provide technical oversight for repair activities
- Site Reporting — Communicate daily site status, outstanding issues, and completion milestones to the project management team
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree or technical
- certification in Electrical Technology, Solar Energy, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in solar PV installation or commissioning
- Working knowledge of DC and AC electrical systems up to medium voltage
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, IV curve tracers, meggers)
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel frequently
Preferred:
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or Associate certification
- Experience with single-axis tracker platforms (Valmont, Terrasmart,
- Array Technologies, etc.)
- Familiarity with Also Energy SCADA and remote monitoring systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience working on brownfield, landfill, or environmentally sensitive sites
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk and work across large field sites in various terrain
