Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager safely leads and oversees the Maintenance Department. This role involves managing the repair, replacement, and upkeep of all plant equipment and systems, with a strong emphasis on proactive and predictive maintenance strategies to minimize unplanned downtime and support company goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance Program Management:
· Initiate, implement, and manage a best-practices maintenance program, with a focus on planning, scheduling, preventive (PM), and predictive (PdM) maintenance.
· Oversee and maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts inventory, and maintenance history of all plant equipment.
· Develop and maintain a critical item list for existing and new equipment.
· Oversee the scheduling of daily work assignments and work shift schedules for maintenance technicians and maintenance coordinator.
· Lead and participate in plant shutdowns.
Team Leadership and Development:
· Supervise, train, mentor, and motivate a team of maintenance technicians (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/E&I, etc.).
· Conduct employee performance reviews, address complaints, resolve problems, and participate in hiring and disciplinary actions.
· Ensure all maintenance personnel are adequately trained and equipped.
Equipment Reliability and Troubleshooting:
· Work with the management team to maximize efficiency of production and production rates through sustained uptime.
· Monitor the operation of plant equipment and systems (e.g., pumps, boilers, centrifuges, evaporators, valves, compressors) to anticipate and proactively solve problems in a timely manner.
· Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for persistent equipment issues.
· Identify and carry out projects to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
· Maintain and repair maintenance shop equipment.
Safety and Compliance:
· Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department, including reviewing safety records to uphold the highest standards of safety.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all relevant environmental and safety regulations.
· Oversee Management of Change (MOC) protocols related to maintenance.
· Ensure compliance and develop new standards to comply with industry specific, best practice insurance requirements.
Budget and Inventory Control:
· Monitor and manage the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment; initiate reordering when necessary.
· Manage the department's operating budget.
Communication and Reporting:
· Communicate regularly with the Operations, Grains, ClearSource departments and Shelby Transportation to coordinate maintenance and repair work.
· Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations.
· Track and improve key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, and PM compliance.
Experience and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) is preferred, but extensive, relevant experience is required. A High School Diploma or GED is required at minimum.
Experience:
· 5-10+ years of relevant work experience in an industrial process manufacturing setting (e.g., ethanol plant, chemical plant, refinery, or similar continuous process facility).
· 3-5+ years of supervisory or management experience in an industrial maintenance capacity.
· In-depth knowledge of ethanol plant, chemical plant, or refinery maintenance is preferred.
· Experience with repairs and maintenance of process equipment is essential.
Skills and Abilities:
· Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance (PdM) processes.
· Proficiency in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for asset management and tracking, such as work order and inventory tracking.
· Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities (e.g., Root Cause Analysis).
· Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Ability to work in challenging environments, which may include high elevations, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noise.
