Volunteer for a startup turning everyday shopping into a $1 trillion solution for nature! ?
Sustainable Discounts redirects hidden retail margins into verified conservation funding, allowing shoppers and brands to protect the planet at no extra cost.
Global conservation is currently facing a nearly $1 trillion annual funding gap. Existing financial mechanisms—like philanthropy and government grants—are often fragile, unpredictable, and highly dependent on political cycles. This volatility prevents long-term ecosystem stewardship, leaving high-impact projects in the Global South underfunded despite their ecological importance. Meanwhile, the global consumer economy contains massive hidden inefficiencies embedded in retail pricing that currently generate zero environmental return, while critical ecosystems remain vulnerable to economic shifts.
Mandatum addresses this disconnect through "Sustainable Discounts™," a groundbreaking funding tool that redirects hidden costs in everyday purchases toward high-impact climate and biodiversity action. By unlocking the financial margins already embedded in standard retail pricing, we allow consumers and brands to fund conservation at no additional cost, creating a scalable "climate justice" mechanism that moves resources from the Global North to vetted projects in the Global South. Validated by the Earthshot Prize and the World Bank, our platform is designed to reach 1 billion shoppers and 5 million merchants, transforming everyday economic activity into a permanent, self-sustaining financial infrastructure that protects our forests and oceans while simultaneously fighting poverty and hunger.
Role (Volunteer, unpaid): Sporting Goods Industry Sustainability Expert
Role Description: The Sporting Goods industry generates billions in durable goods sales every year, yet its sustainability commitments remain long-term and slow to scale. SD™ offers sport an immediate funding mechanism for nature conservation, built into the commerce that already exists. Federations like FIS and major sports brands are actively looking for solutions like this. We need someone who understands this world and can help us navigate it.
Potential areas of support include:
- Identifying sports brands, federations, or associations that would be natural early adopters of SD™
- Making introductions to sustainability leads at sports organizations with a genuine appetite for immediate impact
- Advising on how to frame SD™ within the sports industry’s existing sustainability agenda
- Helping us understand the internal dynamics of how sustainability decisions are made in sporting goods organizations
Time Commitment: Volunteer 2-3 hours per week for 3-5 months remotely ?
