About the Avoided Emissions Program

This internship sits within WBCSD’s Climate Action team with a focus on the Avoided Emissions program. The work on avoided emissions and scaling of low-carbon solutions is one of the key action areas for the Climate Action Imperative at WBCSD. Close to 100 member companies from the business community are engaged which makes it one of the largest programs at WBCSD. Job Overview

In this role, you will support the team’s work across Implementation, Innovation, Policy & Finance. The role focuses on coordinating member interactions and contributing to ongoing technical initiatives, including sectoral deep dives (energy, digital, and transport & mobility) and avoided emissions use cases. Working closely with workstream leads, the intern will help ensure smooth project delivery through coordination, documentation, developing high quality materials and support for meetings and events, while gaining exposure to avoided emissions frameworks and their practical application.


Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to support overall project execution and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Provide support and insights to real-life avoided emissions use cases by compiling inputs and supporting review processes and technical activities such as sectoral methodology development (energy, digital, and transport & mobility) and.
  • Conduct research under guidance to support project needs, including literature reviews, data analysis, and summarization of findings.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of online and in‑person events through agenda development, presentation support, participant briefings, and documentation of key takeaways and action points.
  • Monitor and report member engagement in the relevant projects.
  • Execute assigned tasks efficiently, ensuring that work is completed on time and aligns with project goals.


Qualifications, Skills, and Experiences

  • Educational background: Currently enrolled in or holding a Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred) such as environmental science, sustainability, management, business administration or similar.
  • Understanding of basic impact accounting approaches and concepts (Scope 1-3, ESG standards & climate technologies)
  • High proficiency in common office tools and software combined with strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Proactive work approach in contributing to team success through offering suggestions, volunteering for assignments, and ensuring effective achievement of goals.
  • Good at managing time and resources by handling schedules, prioritizing tasks, and completing them on time with high quality, while staying focused and promptly following up on action items.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain information clearly to different audiences.
  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in a professional environment is preferred but not required.
  • Prior exposure to climate standards (GHG Protocol, SBTi, ISO) is a plus.


The position is full-time fixed-term for 6 months with a possibility of extension for 3 months and based in Amsterdam with a hybrid working model. Please note that for this position you need to be eligible to work in The Netherlands.
