Investment Associate
Help back the companies building the climate economy
Virescent Ventures is looking for an Investment Associate to join our climate tech investment team, ideally in Sydney, with Melbourne also considered. This is an opportunity to help identify, analyse and support the founders and technologies that could reshape the physical economy and accelerate the transition to a lower-emissions future.
You will join a team that has invested in and manages a portfolio of leading Australian climate tech companies, including MAKO in drag-reducing surfaces for aircraft, Relectrify in adaptive battery management systems, Hysata in high-efficiency hydrogen electrolysers, Loam in microbial seed coatings for carbon sequestration, and more.
Why this role matters
Climate tech investing sits at the intersection of science, markets, finance and company building. In this role, your work will help the team decide which companies to back, how to support them as they grow, and where capital can deliver both meaningful climate impact and strong commercial returns.
What you will do
Working closely with the partners and senior team members, you will contribute across the full investment lifecycle: sourcing and evaluating opportunities, executing transactions, supporting portfolio companies, and helping manage investments through to exit.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Sourcing and market insight: Research industry trends, market size, competing technologies and emerging climate tech markets.
- Technology and commercial diligence: Deep dive into new technologies, business models and market dynamics, including by interviewing customers, industry experts and other market participants.
- Founder engagement: Connect with founders and teams developing technologies with the potential to make a meaningful impact on climate change and generate strong commercial returns.
- § Investment analysis: Review pitches, create venture-relevant financial models and analyses, including valuations and cap tables, and frame investment recommendations.
- Deal execution: Write investment recommendations, review legal documents and help manage transaction processes involving multiple stakeholders.
- Portfolio support: Support portfolio companies through special projects, follow-on investment assessments, and preparation for future exits.
- Fund operations: Support investor reporting and contribute to the ongoing development of Virescent’s investment practice.
About you
You are highly motivated, intellectually curious and energised by learning. You enjoy working with entrepreneurs and are comfortable operating in a small, fast-paced team where priorities can change quickly. You are excited by new technologies and comfortable using AI tools to improve the quality, speed and creativity of your work.
You are strong at interpreting and analysing information, including financial information, and can make progress even when data is incomplete or ambiguous. You are scientifically literate, commercially rigorous, and able to assemble diverse sources of evidence to test and verify claims.
You communicate clearly in writing and in conversation, build trusted relationships with founders, peers and portfolio companies, and are always expanding your network and knowledge base. You combine a deep interest in climate tech with the discipline to assess commercial returns. You have strong attention to detail, high standards of accuracy, and a reputation for integrity in the investment and start-up communities.
Tertiary qualifications are essential, ideally in STEM, finance, law or another relevant analytical discipline.
Ideally, you will have three to five or more years of post-tertiary work experience in a role that demonstrates the skills required for this position. Experience in venture capital, private equity, management consulting, corporate finance, investment banking or a start-up would be highly regarded.
Virescent Ventures is committed to hiring people from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. If you are excited by this role but do not meet every listed criterion, we still encourage you to apply.
