Employment Type: Volunteer | Part-time
Duration: 6 months (minimum)
Working hours: Minimum of 10 hours/week
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Volunteer QA Specialist to join our engineering team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the reliability, performance, and accuracy of our platforms—including our flagship marine intelligence hub, Blue Sentinel. As we build features that translate complex environmental datasets into structured information and dynamic dashboards, you will help establish our testing workflows from scratch, catching critical bugs before they reach deployment
Key Responsibilities
Feature & Functional Testing: Validate new application features, dynamic user dashboards, and data upload pipelines, often working with minimal initial documentation or specifications.
Data Verification: Design test scenarios to audit and verify the accuracy of newly generated structured results derived from user-uploaded data templates.
Bug Tracking & Documentation: Meticulously document, reproduce, and report technical bugs (such as layout breaks, UI issues, or functional regressions) using our project management workflows.
Cross-Platform Validation: Conduct comprehensive cross-browser and mobile device testing to ensure responsiveness and a seamless end-user experience across different environments.
Test Automation: Identify high-priority workflows and gradually implement automated test scripts to support scaling deployment cycles.
Collaborative Triage: Partner closely with developers to prioritize fixes, manage hotfixes, and make high-stakes release decisions right before launch cycles.
Qualifications
At least 2+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance (Manual testing required; experience with automation frameworks is a major plus).
A strong, analytical mindset regarding what "quality" means in early-stage software products.
Ability to prioritize testing schedules effectively in a fast-paced environment with limited time and resources.
Familiarity with Slack for communication and ClickUp for task tracking (or a strong willingness to adapt to these tools quickly).
We take communication seriously. You must be able to respond promptly to messages within 48 hours (2 days). Ghosting or being offline for over 5 days to a week and more will not be tolerated.
Ability to work independently without micromanagement in a remote team environment.
Benefits
100% remote and asynchronous work environment—work from anywhere in the world with flexible hours.
High-impact work: Contribute directly to a platform protecting critical ecosystems like the Vembanad Ramsar wetland.
Professional Networking: Work closely with engineering and environmental domain experts at Vexnovate Ventures.
Performance-based recognition, including: LinkedIn, Upwork, and Letter of Recommendation (LOR) recommendation, formal certificate of completion, company email address that can be used as a reference on your CV, feature on the company's website.
Possibility of retainment based on performance. (Equity-only compensation)
