Role Overview

We are seeking motivated Volunteer Full-Stack Developers to help design, scale, and refine our product, Blue Sentinel, our data pipelines, responsive dashboards, and geospatial mapping interfaces. A prototype is available but you will be essentially helping build the functionalities and vision we have from scratch. Some of the tech stacks are still being defined, you will help suggest and implement the best tools to use for this product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Frontend Development: Build and optimize interactive, high-performance web applications using React.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.

  • Geospatial Visualization: Implement dynamic map layers, heatmaps, and H3 hexagonal grids using Mapbox GL JS or Leaflet.

  • Backend & APIs: Develop robust, asynchronous REST and WebSocket endpoints using FastAPI (Python) to serve real-time environmental metrics and threshold alerts.

  • Data Pipelines: Collaborate on data processing pipelines that handle raster/tabular environmental datasets via Pandas, Xarray, and GDAL.

  • Database Management: Write optimized spatial and time-series queries utilizing PostgreSQL/PostGIS, TimescaleDB and Redis.

  • DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure: Manage containerized deployments using Docker, configure secure object storage pipelines across AWS S3 / GCP Cloud Storage, and establish robust version control systems.

Qualifications
  • At least 3+ years of experience as a full-stack developer (or specialized experience as a front-end or back-end developer).

  • Strong knowledge of React, TypeScript and Python.

  • Strong experience database management tools like PostgreSQL, MySQL and Supabase.

  • Familiarity with Slack for team communication and ClickUp for task management.

  • You can use AI coding agents (e.g., Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Windsurf) to speed up the development process.

  • Strong experience with GitHub for version control and CI/CD practice

  • Prior experience or a keen interest in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), remote sensing, or environmental data science is a plus.

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and asynchronous task queues (Celery/Redis) is a major plus.

  • We take communication seriously. You must be able to respond promptly to messages within 48 hours (2 days). Ghosting or being offline for over 5 days to a week and more will not be tolerated.

  • Ability to work independently without micromanagement in a remote team environment.

Benefits
  • 100% remote and asynchronous work environment—work from anywhere in the world with flexible hours.

  • High-impact work: Contribute directly to a platform protecting critical ecosystems like the Vembanad Ramsar wetland.

  • Networking: Work closely with engineering and environmental domain experts at Vexnovate Ventures.

  • Performance-based recognition, including: LinkedIn, Upwork, and Letter of Recommendation (LOR) recommendation, formal certificate of completion, company email address that can be used as a reference on your CV, feature on the company's website.

  • Possibility of retainment based on performance. (Equity-only compensation)
