Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer to help us launch Blue Sentinel, our satellite-powered marine intelligence platform.

Right now, we have a beautiful frontend prototype running on mock data, and our developers are still in the initial phase of building out the backend. Your main mission will be setting up the cloud infrastructure and automated pipelines to bring this platform to life. This isn't just about keeping things running; you will be the key person setting up the tools to be used. Since we’re still in the early stages, we need someone who is comfortable working without a strict roadmap. We are looking for a self-starter who doesn't wait for instructions and can take ownership. You’ll be responsible for spotting potential technical issues, suggesting improvements, and leading the actual building process alongside our leadership team.

While Blue Sentinel is your primary focus, Vexnovate Ventures has other exciting initiatives waiting in the wings. As a lean startup, we’re tackling our goals one at a time, meaning you'll have plenty of opportunities to branch out and help shape our other sustainable initiatives as we scale!

 What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)

  • Own the Cloud Setup: Deploy and manage our Python/GeoDjango backend on Google Cloud Run to ensure it runs smoothly and scales efficiently.

  • Build the Pipelines (CI/CD): Set up automated testing and deployment pipelines so our development team can push new features and satellite data ingestion tasks to production without breaking anything.

  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee the deployment of our core platforms, ensuring high availability, resilience and conducting routine database backups.

  • Database Caretaking: Oversee our Supabase database to ensure tables are healthy, queries are fast, and database backups are running automatically.

  • Keep It Secure: Manage our environment variables, API keys (for Copernicus and NASA satellite feeds), and user authentication setups safely.

  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside our frontend and backend developers and GIS experts to make sure the server infrastructure handles incoming geographic data seamlessly.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

  • At least 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Hands-on Cloud Experience: Real-world experience setting up and deploying web applications to cloud environments (ideally Google Cloud Platform/GCP).

  • CI/CD Pipeline Builders: Experience building automated workflows using GitHub Actions or similar tools.

  • Database Friendly: Comfortable working with Supabase.

  • Python/Django Familiarity: You don’t need to write the backend, but you should understand how to deploy and debug Python/Django-based environments.

  • Prior experience or a keen interest in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a plus.

  • You have a self-starter attitude. We are a lean team operating without a massive corporate playbook. You should be happy identifying technical bottlenecks and suggesting smart, simple fixes.

  • Great Communicator: We use Slack and ClickUp. Because we work asynchronously, replying to team messages within 48 hours is a must (ghosting or extended days of being offline won’t be allowed please!).

Benefits

  • 100% remote and asynchronous work environment—work from anywhere in the world with flexible hours.

  • High-impact work: You are building a platform designed to directly protect fragile marine ecosystems like the Vembanad Ramsar wetland.

  • Professional Networking: Work closely with engineering and environmental domain experts at Vexnovate Ventures.

  • Solid credentials: We reward great work with LinkedIn endorsements and recommendation, Upwork recommendation, Letter of Recommendation (LOR), formal certificate of completion (if you wish), company email address to use as reference, feature on the company's website.

  • Possibility of retainment based on performance. (Equity-only compensation)
