Battery Research Scientist - Solid-State Technology
Job Description
Job DescriptionCompany Description
Client is seeking a highly motivated Battery Engineer with expertise in solid-state battery development to join a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative team driving the next generation of microbattery energy storage technologies.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on laboratory experience with solid electrolytes, cathode integration, and cell testing/analysis. The role involves material optimization, cell prototyping, and process development to advance next-generation energy storage technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize solid-state cell architectures, focusing on cathode optimization and solid electrolyte interfaces.
- Experienced in anode free cell configurations including deposition, interface engineering, and evaluating stability against solid electrolytes.
- Integrate cathode materials with solid electrolytes to improve performance, cycle life, and reliability.
- Hands-on cell fabrication and prototyping, including electrolyte deposition, cathode integration, and full-cell assembly.
- Perform hands-on cell-level testing (cycling, impedance, rate capability, DC polarization) and translate data into meaningful failure mechanisms
- Characterize electrochemical performance (EIS, CV, cycling) and correlate results to material and interface properties.
- Troubleshoot cell failures through structured root cause analysis and propose engineering solutions.
- Support thin-film deposition, coating, and integration processes for electrolyte and electrode layers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on design, fabrication, and scale-up of solid-state battery prototypes.
Required qualifications:
- PhD or MS in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 3 years of experience in the fields of electrochemistry, battery development, cell design or other related experiences. Manager will consider additional years experience in lieu of the higher level education.
- Hands-on experience with solid electrolytes such as LiPON, sulfides, garnets, or polymer-based systems.
- Knowledge of thin-film deposition techniques (sputtering, ALD, evaporation) and cathode/electrolyte integration.
- Strong background in hands-on electrochemical testing and failure analysis (EIS, impedance growth modeling, capacity fade diagnostics).
- Experience with hands-on cell design, fabrication, and scaling for solid-state battery prototypes.
