Job Summary:

Independently manages day-to-day work on a wide range of large, complex projects and project components. Conducts a significant amount of project-specific analysis and writing. Assists with new project proposals and marketing efforts. Maintains ongoing relationships with past, current, and possible future customers and business partners. Regularly represents VEIC at regional and national forums. 

As this position resides in the New England Heat Pump Accelerator program, the role will provide strategic leadership and advanced program implementation expertise to the delivery of this clean energy program to a multi-state region. This role acts as the strategy lead for assigned areas of work, translating contract goals into actionable program strategies and tactics, optimizing performance and operations, and aligning cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution. This Senior Consultant will support the budget and resources required to guide multiple initiatives and play a critical role in shaping the delivery of this program.

Location:

This is a remote or Hybrid position, and the ideal candidate will be located in the states where VEIC conducts business: CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, MT, NJ, NY, PA, OH, RI, VA, VT, AND WI. Please note that while we welcome applicants from many areas, we do not currently hire in the following parts of New York: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Essential Functions:


  • Manages high-profile and complex project promoting cutting-edge energy program(s). This may include:
  • Managing ongoing client, partner, and subcontractor relationships
  • Facilitating meetings of internal and external working groups
  • Managing the work of other VEIC staff and/or partners and subcontractors; and
  • Tracking and management of project budgets.
  • Educates and provides analyses of energy use and reviews plans and specifications for energy-efficient design and energy code compliance.
  • Participates in market strategy and cross-functional teams within VEIC in the development of strategies and initiatives related to implementation services.
  • May play a role in participating in proposal preparation and development and maintenance of relationships with customers and business partners, as needed.
  • Represents VEIC at regional and national forums.
  • Participates actively in team meetings/functions and is committed to knowledge transfer and organizational learning; may provide training, guidance and/or direction to other staff members.
  • Supports the coordination of activities with other staff, groups, and divisions within VEIC as is necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.

Knowledge and Experience:


  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus eight or more years of relevant professional experience, including managing projects, programs, client relationships, or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired. Five or more years’ experience within the efficiency or renewable energy field(s) preferred.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, with some demonstrated experience in effective application of those skills to high-level work assignments
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in approach to work.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage all aspects of large, complex projects – including client interaction, maintaining project budgets, and overseeing all aspects of project work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Track record of effectiveness in persuasive communications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Strong quantitative analytical skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously, address competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to be organized, detail oriented and accurate.
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions and meetings.
  • Established reputation and professional connections within field of expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop (and acquire funding for) new consulting projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of the characteristics of key energy-efficiency and/or renewable markets and measures.
  • Extensive knowledge of good efficiency and/or renewable energy programs and policies.
  • Facility with techniques of economic analysis.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to remain stationary at a workstation for extended periods (typically 6-8 hours per day with regular breaks)
  • Regular use of computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone/headset requiring fine motor skills and repetitive hand/wrist movements
  • Visual acuity to view digital screens, documents, and presentations for prolonged periods
  • Verbal communication abilities are sufficient for clear articulation during in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, and discussions
  • Auditory capabilities to participate effectively in conversations, conference calls, and virtual collaboration sessions
  • Cognitive focus for simultaneous management of multiple communication streams, projects, and stakeholder relationships
  • Occasional movement between meeting spaces, collaboration areas, and individual workstations
  • Minimal lifting requirements (typically under 15 pounds) for office supplies, equipment, or materials
