Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As the Executive Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to Vancity Community Foundation and are accountable for advancing its mission to work with communities to create the economic, social, and environmental conditions to collectively thrive. You will lead the Foundation’s overall direction, performance, partnerships, and organizational culture, ensuring its work reflects a community-led approach and advances key priorities. You will oversee the Foundation’s philanthropic, social finance, granting, partnership, research, advocacy, and community investment activities, while stewarding strong relationships with Vancity, donors, community partners, staff, the Board, and affiliated stakeholders.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role based in Vancouver, BC, reporting to the Board of Directors. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Leading the development and execution of the Foundation’s strategic direction in alignment with its mission, values, and community commitments
- Advancing a community‑led approach that supports thriving, just, and inclusive communities across the region
- Integrating philanthropy, social finance, capacity building, research, partnerships, and advocacy to deepen the Foundation’s impact and relevance
- Overseeing initiatives, programs, funds, and community investments to ensure meaningful and measurable outcomes for equity‑deserving communities
- Building and stewarding trusted relationships with Vancity, community partners, Indigenous partners, donors, governments, funders, and sector leaders
- Representing the Foundation as an external ambassador to strengthen its profile, influence, and credibility across philanthropic, nonprofit, and social finance ecosystems
- Working closely with the Board of Directors to support effective governance, strategic decision‑making, and organizational accountability
- Ensuring strong financial stewardship, sustainability, and responsible resource allocation in support of long‑term community impact
- Leading and supporting a high‑performing, inclusive team while fostering a culture grounded in trust, learning, accountability, and shared purpose
- Championing equity, Truth and Reconciliation, anti‑racism, and climate action across strategy, operations, partnerships, and funding practices
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Significant executive‑level leadership experience (typically 10+ years) within a non‑profit, foundation, or mission‑driven organization aligned with social finance, community development, affordable housing, climate action, or inclusive economic development
- Proven experience leading complex organizations through change, growth, and transition while managing sizeable teams and budgets
- Strong strategic leadership capability, with demonstrated success translating ambitious social purpose mandates into clear priorities and measurable outcomes
- Well‑developed business and financial acumen, including experience overseeing budgets, financial planning, risk management, and long‑term sustainability in a social purpose environment
- Extensive experience working collaboratively with Boards of Directors, including supporting governance, reporting, and strategic decision‑making
- A track record of building authentic, respectful relationships with community organizations, Indigenous partners, equity‑deserving communities, donors, governments, and sector networks
- Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, anti‑racism, and Truth and Reconciliation in leadership practice and organizational decision‑making
- Post‑secondary education in a relevant field such as business, public administration, social sciences, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Extra Skills That Set You Apart:
- Experience working within or alongside a community foundation, credit union, or values‑based financial institution
- Exposure to social finance tools such as impact investing, community loans, or blended capital approaches
- Experience influencing public policy, systems change initiatives, or cross‑sector advocacy efforts

- Commercially and Financially Astute: Commercially and financially literate, with the capacity to oversee a P&L, budgets, investment or capital-related activity, resource allocation, risk, and long-range sustainability in a social purpose environment.
- A Trusted Community and Stakeholder Partner: An exceptional relationship builder who works credibly with community organizations, Indigenous partners, Black-led and equity-deserving communities, governments, donors, sector networks, and movement partners.

What You’ll Earn:
This role offers a salary range of $175,000 to $220,000 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
