Overview:

HVAC Systems Designer / Mechanical Engineering Consultant

Location: Hybrid | Multidisciplinary Design Firm

We’re on the lookout for a mechanical design professional who brings hands-on experience with heating, cooling, ventilation, and building automation systems across diverse industries—think higher ed, healthcare, tech, government, and commercial real estate. You’ll join a collaborative team delivering smart building solutions, from conceptual planning through construction and commissioning.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients on building systems projects from start to finish
  • Develop layouts, specs, and equipment selections for HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, ductwork, piping, and controls
  • Analyze existing systems and sites to inform design strategies and retrofits
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to support project planning
  • Create system documentation including technical reports, energy models, construction drawings, and code-compliant calculations
  • Assist in preparing permit packages and coordinating with other trades
  • Provide input on commissioning, energy performance, and lifecycle cost considerations
  • Conduct site visits to validate field conditions and support construction progress
  • Stay responsive and organized across multiple active projects and deadlines

Your Toolkit Includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • E.I.T. accepted; P.E. license preferred and valued
  • 5+ years of HVAC or mechanical building systems experience in consulting or design roles
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; experience with energy modeling software a plus
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently within a cross-functional team environment

Bonus Points If You’ve:

  • Contributed to sustainable design initiatives or energy efficiency programs
  • Managed or supported the preparation of detailed project specifications
  • Navigated the unique building system needs of labs, hospitals, or telecom facilities

Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
