We are now looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join our Factory Management team in Houthalen-Helchteren, Belgium.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will foster a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace within the production facility. Reporting to the General Manager and as part of the Factory Management Team, you will ensure compliance with regulations and company standards, identify and mitigate risks, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. You will partner with all departments to provide guidance, training, and best practices, helping the factory operate safely and efficiently. In addition, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with local HSE legislation, UPM standards, and environmental policies
  • Implement and promote best practices in safety and environmental protection
  • Plan and run safety programs, inspections, and awareness campaigns
  • Advise management on health, safety, and environment matters (Belgian & EU regulations)
  • Conduct workplace inspections and oversee subcontractor compliance
  • Lead and develop Behavior-Based Safety initiatives
  • Monitor audit trends and propose improvements to reduce hazards
  • Investigate incidents, report findings, and implement corrective actions
  • Deliver health & safety training and support risk assessments
  • Collaborate with labs to measure and manage workplace risks
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of plans and documentation related to the workplace modernization projects
  • Cooperate closely with Global Business area HSE function to ensure local implementation and alignment of Global HSE processes
  • Support implementation on site and further maintenance of ISO 14001, 45001 Management Systems, and develop related procedures and documentation
  • Create annual local Safety Plans and support implementation
  • Participate in and support Corporate HSE Audits
  • Ensure corporate timely HSE reporting

Who You Are

  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in safety, environment, engineering, or related field
  • You are a certified Prevention Advisor Level 1
  • You have at least two years of HSE experience in manufacturing
  • You have knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • You are skilled in training, presentations, and project teamwork (international experience is a plus)
  • You communicate effectively, solve problems, and adapt to changing situations
  • You communicate well in Dutch and English, both written and spoken
  • You are proactive, innovative, and driven
  • You are proficient with office software tools
