Your Responsibilities

  • Research and collaboration in the research group Global Climate Analysis in the field of atmospheric data analysis and climate change
  • Independent research on detection and attribution of atmospheric climate change, analyzing observational and model datasets, as well as on extreme events, such as wildfires/volcanoes, and their impacts
  • Dedicated publication activity in the research field of atmospheric climate change and climate analysis, and participation in knowledge transfer to science and public
  • Co-operative applications for third-party funded research projects
  • Active participation, support, and research contributions to international activities, e.g., within the framework of the World Climate Research Programme
  • Student support and (co-)supervision
  • Support with organizational tasks

Your Profile

  • Completed doctorate/PhD in the field of climate physics, environmental system sciences or similar comparable field
  • Experience in the field of atmosphere and climate physics, climate and environmental monitoring and satellite remote sensing
  • Proven experience in the analysis of atmospheric climate variability, trends, atmospheric extremes including wildfires and volcanic eruptions
  • Experience and competences in climate data analysis, especially of global satellite observations including GNSS radio occultation, and climate model simulations
  • Successful international publication activities
  • Engagement in international cooperations and climate research activities
  • Experience in scientific programming using Python, shell scripting and with Linux operating systems, and in using LaTeX
  • Experience in co-supervision of Bachelor-and/or Master theses
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Independent, self-reliant work style, quality awareness and innovative spirit
  • Communication skills, organizational and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to scientific excellence and capability of working with people in an internationally and interdisciplinary oriented work environment

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 70,200.20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.

Organisational Unit

The Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change integrates climate, environmental, economic and social research. We contribute to the understanding of physical and socio-economic aspects of climate change as well as the transition to a low-carbon society. You will become a member of our research group on Global Climate Analysis. We use a unique observational perspective complemented with climate model data to describe and understand atmospheric variability and climate trends, their drivers, feedbacks, and impacts. You will work on highly relevant topics in an international environment and contribute to solving key challenges in atmospheric climate research. Researcher exchange and research visits will be supported. We offer a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment.
