PURPOSE OF CONTRACT: Collaborator on activities related to the project/agreement stated.

JOB LOCATION AND SCHEDULE: CICA, Monday to Friday 9 - 15 h

This research-support technician contract is called for with the aim of being able to adequately achieve the objectives of the research project "Use of biochar-based soil amendments to improve soil health under perennial crops within the framework of climate change and the circular economy" with reference PID***********NB-C22.

The contract will last for 7.5 months, ending on October 31, ****, in order to carry out the tasks described below and associated with achieving the specific objectives of the funding grant.

The hired person will collaborate in carrying out the following activities and tasks:

  • Field work: travel to field areas to prepare field tests and soil and vegetation sampling.
  • Laboratory work: handling, preparation and analysis of biochar, biochar-based amendments, soil and biochar/soil mixtures.

The determinations will include physical, chemical and biological properties (porosity, water retention curves, carbon and nutrient content, respiration, metal concentrations).

  • Office work: Analysis of results, preparation of tables and graphs, report writing and computer analysis.
  • Required qualification: Bachelor's degree or Degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering.
  • B1 driving licence.

Eligibility criteria

Average grade of the degree weighted by the number of calls for obtaining the degree: between 0 and 10 points.

Master's studies in soil or environmental sciences: Average grade weighted between 0 and 10 points.

Having studied subjects related to soil science: Average grade weighted between 0 and 5 points.

Scientific publications (articles and/or contributions to conferences) in Soil Sciences, Agronomy and/or Forestry (1.25 points / indexed publication and 0.75 points / non-indexed publication and prestigious conferences): between 0 and 20 points.

Knowledge and experience demonstrated in previous contracts in the study of physical (structure and water properties), chemical (carbon and nutrient content) and biological (respiration, enzymatic activities, bacterial biomass) properties of soil, and plant tests (2 points per month of work experience and 0.2 points per hour of courses taken): between 0 and 30 points.

Research stays to learn soil analysis and characterisation techniques (1 point per month of stay): between 0 and 5 points.

English level: 5 points / B2 or equivalent, 2.5 points / B1 or equivalent.

B2 level or equivalent in languages other than Spanish or Galician: 1 point for each language (maximum 5 points).

Personal interview Personal interview with the three candidates with the highest score, if this score is at least of 30 points (maximum 10 points)
