Job Summary

The Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Associate Director provides strategic leadership and governance for worldwide EHS programs within a multinational organization. This role ensures global regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement and best-in-class EHS performance to promote safe, healthy, and sustainable workplaces. Reporting to the Global Director of Facilities & EHS, the Associate Director serves as a trusted advisor on risk management, sustainability, and organizational resilience, leading international teams and fostering a proactive culture of safety and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, strategic vision, cross-cultural leadership skills, and exceptional communication abilities in complex, dynamic environments.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develops and implements the global EHS strategy in alignment with the company’s mission, values, and business objectives.
  • Guideline Development: Designs, reviews, and enforces comprehensive EHS Guidelines, programs, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and operational excellence in every region where the company operates.
  • Risk Management: Identifies, assesses, and mitigates EHS risks, environmental liabilities, workplace hazards, public health threats by implementing robust control measures and monitoring systems.
  • Global Compliance: Ensures adherence to international, national, and local EHS regulations (such as OSHA, EPA, EU Directives, ISO standards, etc.), keeping abreast of legal developments and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Performance Measurement: Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting processes to track EHS metrics, incident rates, audit findings, and improvement initiatives across all facilities.
  • Crisis Management: Leads the response to environmental incidents, workplace accidents, and health emergencies, coordinating with internal teams, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborates with government agencies, industry partners, and local communities to foster transparency, drive sustainability programs, and build trust.
  • Training & Development: Oversees the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees at all levels, cultivating a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champions innovation and best practices in EHS management, leveraging technology, data analytics, and cross-functional collaboration to raise standards.
  • Resource Management: Manages the global EHS budget, allocates resources for programs and initiatives, and ensures that the EHS team is empowered and equipped to achieve objectives.
  • Leadership & Team Building: Recruits, mentors, and leads a diverse team of EHS professionals worldwide, fostering professional growth and high performance.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility: Integrates sustainability, climate action, and social responsibility into the company’s EHS strategy, contributing to positive environmental and social impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute global EHS policies and strategies in line with company goals and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, trends, and compliance status to executive leadership and the board of directors.
  • Manage global EHS risk assessments and lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
  • Ensure company readiness for EHS audits and inspections; oversee the closure of audit findings and implementation of improvement measures.
  • Develop and deliver EHS communication, training, and awareness campaigns to drive engagement and accountability.
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, external auditors, industry groups, and community organizations.
  • Lead sustainability and climate action initiatives, including waste reduction, resource conservation, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Prepare and present EHS reports, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response programs, including crisis communication and business continuity planning.
  • Manage global EHS projects, budgets, and resource allocation in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Continuously review and improve EHS management systems, policies, and procedures in line with international best practices.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field (Environmental Management, Public Health, Sustainability, Risk Management, or similar) is a plus.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSP – Certified Safety Professional, CIH – Certified Industrial Hygienist, NEBOSH, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor) are advantageous.

Experience

  • 10 years of progressive experience in EHS management, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial/senior leadership role in a multinational or multi-State & site organization.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing multi-national EHS strategies and achieving measurable improvements in EHS performance.
  • Substantial experience with regulatory compliance and EHS management systems across diverse geographies and sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multicultural and multidisciplinary teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience in crisis management, incident investigation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Background in sustainability, climate action, or corporate social responsibility initiatives is highly desirable.

Annual compensation range: $165k-185k
