Job Description

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated BAS Service Technician to join our growing Colorado team.

This role is ideal for an experienced controls service professional or HVAC technician who loves troubleshooting, optimizing, and improving building automation systems. You’ll work on diverse projects across multiple platforms — from hospitals and schools to office buildings and industrial facilities — while building advanced integration and networking skills.

At Universal Controls, you’re not just turning wrenches; you’re improving building performance, reducing energy waste, and delivering comfort through technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair building automation system issues across Niagara, JCI, Distech, Siemens, KMC, Delta, and other platforms.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, system checks, and field upgrades to ensure peak performance.
  • Load and adjust control programs, graphics, and parameters to fine-tune operation.
  • Work directly with clients to identify issues, communicate solutions, and deliver excellent service.
  • Collaborate with developers and project managers on integration and optimization efforts.
  • Participate in system commissioning, testing, and calibration of sensors and field devices.
  • Accurately document service activities, time, and materials through BuildOps.
  • Stay current with networking, analytics, and open-protocol technologies (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT).

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in BAS service, controls troubleshooting, or commercial HVAC systems.
  • Working knowledge of Niagara 4, JCI, Distech, Siemens, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with BACnet/IP, Modbus, and control networks.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and sequences of operation.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Independent, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious work ethic.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $40–$55/hr (based on experience)
  • Company Vehicle: New model Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with topper (for work use)
  • Fuel: Company gas card
  • Technology: Laptop, software licenses, and mobile tools provided
  • Paid Time Off: 48 hours PTO annually + 7 paid holidays
  • Health, Dental, and Vision: 100% employer-paid for employee coverage
  • 401K with 3% company match (launching Q1 2026)
  • Ongoing BAS training through Smart Buildings Academy and manufacturer courses
  • Performance-based raises and advancement opportunities (Service Lead, Developer track, or Project role)

If you’ve worked on multiple BAS systems or have unique integration stories — we’d love to hear about them.
