UNDO is tackling the greatest challenge of our time: climate change. We are a fast-growing for-profit business that is already one of the biggest carbon removal companies in the world. But this is only the start - we have ambitious plans aligned with great funding, excellent people and an inclusive team.
In 2025 UNDO was named one of four global winners of the $100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition, giving further recognition and credibility to enhanced rock weathering (ERW) as a carbon removal pathway, and UNDO as a scientific world leader in this field.
In addition to our successful ERW operations, we’re now leveraging our expertise and underlying technology to deliver the UNDO Platform; the digital, financial, and scientific infrastructure that enables project developers around the globe to run scalable, bankable, and verifiable ERW carbon removal projects, generating billions of tonnes of verified CDR.
Role overview
As UNDO’s Head of Science, you’ll be a core member of UNDO’s senior leadership team reporting directly into the executive team and accountable for our scientific strategy and delivery across a wide range of initiatives including:
- Developing and proving out new approaches to robustly and cost-effectively evidence and quantify CDR at scale, complying with the standards of today, but also moving the industry forwards by influencing the standards of tomorrow
- Creating the detailed protocols and processes that enable both UNDO’s own operations team and other project developers on our platform to successfully implement those approaches and deliver projects that reliably yield verified CDR
- Supporting our projects: tailoring UNDO’s approaches to new regions and deployment scenarios, providing scientific support to our project developers, and analysing the resulting measurement data to enable successful verification
This isn’t a role where you will spend a lot of time doing individual science, but you will need the scientific background to enable you to collaborate with our senior scientists, review and challenge their work, and take accountability for ensuring that the science we deliver is robust and credible.
Where you’ll spend your time
- Leading the science team, including collaboration with our Chief Product Officer on the delivery roadmap and creating an environment for our three senior scientists to thrive and grow
- Project management: collaborating with our product team on a roadmap that delivers maximum value to the business, and taking accountability for the team delivering against this
- Effectively connecting the deep science in your team with the wider business: aligning to the higher level strategy of the exec; representing Science at key forums; informing strategic decision-making, and increasing scientific literacy across the team
- Owning the strategy for the continuous development and improvement of our quantification approach - and the calibration and validation of our geochemical model - based on the best available science
- Continuous collaboration with our Head of Carbon to ensure both alignment to the existing ERW verification methodologies, and UNDO’s role in influencing and shaping future methodologies too
- Ongoing support of our platform partners, from feedstock and site characterisation, to verifiable MRV design and continuous scientific support as required
- Managing the departmental budget, balancing financial sensibility and sustainability with scientific investment
- Assisting with due diligence, financing / grant applications, investor relations and contract reporting where expert scientific detail is required
- Staying current with the latest scientific advancements and industry trends in geochemistry and enhanced weathering
We’d love to see from you
- Expertise in a related field (geochemistry, plant sciences, soil sciences, geology, hydrology or other), including industry or commercial deployment experience
- Proven experience managing a team, delivering against business objectives whilst maintaining scientific rigour and progress
- Strong ability to translate R&D into protocols and processes that can be deployed by our labs and project developers, and following through with the support and QC required to ensure that projects yield the required outcomes
- Proven effectiveness as an excellent cross-functional communicator, translating scientific concepts into actionable insights for a diverse audience, influencing company priorities and decision-making, and building high-trust relationships across the organisation
- A balance of strategic and operational rigour, able to keep the big picture in mind whilst giving laser focus to the areas that need attention
- Passion for environmental sustainability and addressing climate change.
Working environment
We have a hybrid working model - we’re remote-friendly but also have an office in Waterloo, London and a lab space in Kingston, Ontario. For this role, there will be the need to meet in person with key stakeholder groups such as the Science team and SLT (quarterly offsites) or the executive team (adhoc, dependent on work).
